Anyone else here also take an interest in "Prepping"?

I've been stalking this forum from the shadows for a few months now, and thoroughly enjoyed reading through a lot of your posts.

Yowies are, of course, fringe subjects, "way out" and left to tge "nutters". At least that's societies general view of them. So I thought that this forum would be a good place to start a discussion on prepping. I'm not talking hollywood type zombie apocalypse or anything silly like that, just storing supplies, having a Bug Out Location and plan to get there when SHTF etc. I have rerecently taken a keen interest in the subject, and have started putting aside some basic supplies, putting a Bug Out Bag together, and planning a remote BOL to go to to get away from it all when s#@t Hits The Fan (SHTF). I also have a Bug Out Vehicle, which is my only vehicle; a modified 1986 60 series LandCruiser with a turboed 2H diesel engine. My planned BOL is in the Vic high country, as its not too far from where I live. I'm nit disclosing actual locations (towns etc) for obvious reasons.

If you look at history, you will see that all the most powerful civilizations and empires eventually fell, and I honestly believe that western civilization is it its waning hours. So in short, I'm preparing for the complete collapse of our societies and the rampart run of marshall law, followed by complete anarchy perpetrated by the member of our society who survived the intial riots, robberies and murders en masse. Anyone else here think the same way?

Actually.... as nutty as prepping sounds in itself, usually given to those labeled conspiracy theorists or Dooms Day nutters, I have actually thought of the same thing of what to do, when, and if, it ever did happen.

Couldn't care less if I was labeled the above....... have I prepped - No, Have I thought of it - Yes.

In regards for running for the hills its my belief there will be more than you think that will be trying to do the same if it ever did happen, much like an Easter weekend trying to find the best camping spot, although on a much larger scale.

Its a horrible thought but always good to have some canned food and water handy. I learnt that during the brisbane floods. Not easy to keep much else in a 2 bedroon unit though. Seeds would come in handy in the long run.

Ive often thought that these compounds that the preppers have would be easy targets for roaming gangs. I know some stockpile weapons and ammo but thats only gonna last so long.

Doubt id be heading for the bush though. Id have to stay to help my freinds and family.

I think it would be like the walking dead tv show with other humans posing the biggest threat.

Yeah, I've thought about that a lot, which is making picking the right spot hard. I have a HEMA Maps map of the entire high country, showing every single small 4wd track, walking track, abandoned hut, even the smallest of trout streams in great detail. I'm trying to find a place that is well away from even the most hardcore (read impassable for any but the most heavily modified and well eqquiped vehicles) 4wd track, and preferably on high ground and near at least 2 small streams. I want to gradually (read undetected by pesky Parks Victoria) built a small one room cabin, maybe partially recessed into a hill or mountainside and store heaps of various essential supplies up there. Its a bit of a compromise though, whilst it has to be sufficiently remote to remain hidden both before and after SHTF, I also have to be able to access it relatively easily. I thought of somewhere near Lake Dartmouth, but every man and his dog from wangaratta and even melbourne will head there. Its incredibly frustrating and much harder than I initially thought to choose a suitable location.

Why? Will I get eaten by a yowie? . I've spent most of my life in the bush, so I've got a pretty good idea of how that kind of remote , off the grid living situation works, as I spent a good few years doing it (although not quite as extreme) in FNQ. I'm getting a good compound bow once funds permit, so hunting deer for food without the loud, attention drawing crack of a 30-06 will be great.

It was while checking out a very hard to get to bug out location my wife and I found what looked like a footprint, about size ten. Just one, pretty deep in the light gravel of an extremely remote creek that fed into a large dam. It was back when Ebola was scaring/being used to scare everybody. If there was a pandemic we were ready to head for the hills to wait it out.
No toes were defineable but it was definitely foot shaped in a very likely habitat area.

While I personally doubt bugging out will be necessary or even possible in most SHTF scenarios, we 'prep' by keeping ourselves supplied with plenty of stored food and also equipment, ranging from water filters and tarps to machetes and compound bows, just in case. (Got many years supply of broadheads and shafts stored as well)

If nothing else, keeping well stocked with food saves money as groceries keep going up. Some people 'invest' in silver and gold, we invest in food. We eat it before it goes out of date and by buying lots now we save money as prices inflate.

Don't drink much. Looked into making 'shine once so we had a product we could make and trade with though.
Didn't bother collecting stuff for it coz if the SHTF we'll be going full stealth and keeping our heads down for at least first six months. After that I have skills I can barter with when my gold and silver runs out.
