Its Daigular national park forest.macquariedave wrote:Without revealing your exact area, what NP are we talking about (might be back further in the thread, but I'm lazy)?TrevorPeters wrote:Hi Dee,
Yes it sounds like you psyched yourself up but got let down. I was wondering how you might find it after reading the National Parks site and seeing there were a lot of tracks closed due to flooding and downed trees.
It wasn't a loss though. It seems you likely encountered the rear guard, left to keep an eye on things while the rest of the group was holed up in drier, safer areas.
The wood knocks were probably just the signal to the others that someone was about. I think you are right that they were on higher ground.
Depending on when the Rangers come through and clear the fallen timber, they may stay out of the area for a few more weeks until the activity dies down and the conditions dry up a bit more.
It all depends on where they come down for water and how often.
Good luck with future trips.

Hey Dee thanks for posting your report. Doesnt sound like a total loss as thats very interesting what Trevor suggested was happening. Some more insight into their behaviour at least. I reckon he (TP) is on the money there and maybe more luck in a few weeks. The rock rolling down the hill sounds a bit suss. Could happen naturally but doubt it considering your previous experience in that area!

Mac--D'Aguilar forest
YB--The rock rolling was a throw role, we heard it bouncing down--i have to catch up with ron as he was behind and caught it on his go pro.
TP--I wish i would have read on it before we went, it was a exhausting walk to say the least.Yes i believe exactly what your saying. They were my thoughts on the very very long uphill walk out, the beanie and gloves came straight off lol. 1 way to get fitter i guess. Will definently wait a few weeks now, let it all settle down. I hope hope they dont all move on permanently.

Re: Went bushwalking--never again--whats out there?
Hi all. Just a update--nothing much new to tell. Went out sat night with a group of 7. As soon as we entered we heard them which hasnt happened before, so we entered toward the noise. Noises ( rock sounds stopped) when we got to the creek. So myself and 1 other stayed at the creek quiet with lights off while the others continued walking in. Small pebbles were thrown in front of me hitting the ground on the creek rocks, i was in the dark so didnt see the pebbles landed. Heard rock noises in the distant. Eventually the others came back, rick said he didnt go all the way as they were warning loudly out there and he didnt think it was safe to continue( with the group he took out), he said large boulder rocks were thumping near them(not at them) and was very loud.Twice we smelt a disgusting smell out there so not sure what that smell was, it soon came and dissapeared. To keep a long story short we did a lot of off light work and just heard rock clanging. No visual of anything.Got audio on cams. Only 2 new rock piles were up.we did here 3 birds at different times squarking, we thought they were being murdered by the sounds of them. We have never heard animals out there before. On our way back out some rocks were rolled down toward us, we stood our ground this time, none were thrown at us.Something ran very loud past us in the bush, don ran into the bush after it, saw nothing, could have been anything though.( we know these things have always been quiet so positive it wasnt the hairy thing we wanted to see. We soon came across a heap of bird feathers on our way out(no bodies) just feathers which were not there on our way in, but again anything could have caught them. Lots of rock activity once again---guessing 5 out there. Getting immuned to the rocks now so don peed and rick threw rocks back, nothing eventuated. Same thing--nothing real new so we have no choice but to up the anti--we are getting braver. Not taking the same people out next time so we will be able to explore further next time, going to set up a mini camp with food cooking and stay out for a lot longer so we can see if more can happen, we will leave the campsite for a short period and leave a cam set up there. Also Lindsay mentioned to bring out a fake crying baby, just something new we can leave at the campsite too, they may get inquisitive more. So they are coming back after all that rain we had so i guess good news.Just want to get 1 good dam pic. Im Getting frustrated now lol.Any good cheap ideas would be appreciated. Thanks Dee

Re: Went bushwalking--never again--whats out there?
Well the time is coming up again, for this sat night. Going to cook Bacon and Roo down there, should smell good! Even bringing coffee for us humans. Also bringing apples and mangoes to hang in the trees, i really dont know what they eat.( as long as its not us) Got the camping chairs and all. Should be a great night because we are bringing 3 new people with more experience from this forum so really excited on there view on the noises and smells. Im sure there not there to kill us at all as they havnt yet. Got the crying baby ready and will place her alone at the creek area and make a smooth large circle around her to see if we can get any footprints shown..Got the plaster of paris, water from creek and measuring tape too this time. Rons bringing a real smelly nappy thanks to his grandkids lol. We will also hang this on a tree, well ron can! Like i said before if any one has any new cheap ideas let me know. Thanks Dee. Sick of the noises and rock throwing, i need visual.

Hi Dee. Good luck and be careful out there. Have you guys ever gone back there without your digital tech? Im not sure but the first time out you had a camera but dont think any tech when you got pummeled with rocks? Might be whats putting them off?

Re: Went bushwalking--never again--whats out there?
Hi, thankyou. Yes, lately we have been using 2 ir camcorders. Its a hard one because if we dont have them , we may very well see them but wont have anything substantial on film. The old camera we used to use is a bit dark, and and its quite large to hold up all the time, these smaller ones just clip onto our body. But you are right , i guess we have to ask ourselves do we want to visually see them for ourselves or get proof they exist.I guess even if we ever got something on film people will just squabble over whether its fake or real anyway. In the end i guess iv just kept going back for my own mind what is out there. I may follow your advice and just take the old one. Thanks again.(more to carry with all these extras lol.) Thanks for your input--youve been heaps of help. Dee

Somethings at steak here - BBQ sausages and you might snag one. Do it in a Bunnings store on Saturday morning and they might stop to put some money in the jar.Yowie bait wrote:Hi Dee. Re: Went bushwalking--never again--whats out there?
Me rick josh ron and 2 from forum headed out there sat night.carried in a fair bit of stuff. Very quiet still night. Got to creek with no noises, set up a mini camp, 2 new rock stacks were up. Hung the fruit around trees with fishing wire along the paths, then sat and cooked the food for aroma. Aroma didnt last long as rick got hungry and started eating the bacon and sausages. Hung around at creek bank and all had a coffee, distant noises of rocks only. No weird smells around and no animal life.Left baby at creek bank and all wondered further in, again with only distant rock sounds, 3 rock thumps were nearer, but no rock throwing, rolling evident, so we split up, 3 and 3. The other 3 got back first and 2 of them saw yellow eyes down the creek at seperate occasions but wasnt sure what the eyes were from.Saw nothing else. All sat back in dark at creek bank with again only distant rock sounds. No real activity or disturbances. On our way out eventually freezing only 1 banana and 1 apple were taken???
So either there was something more interesting for them in the distance or
We had carried a lot of gear in that they didnt want to come near or
The boys smelt the big hairy men away themselves with all there farting that night.
Who knows
We will give it a large break now for a while as there is less activity now the more we have been going out. Quite dissapointing again. Dee

Re: Went bushwalking--never again--whats out there?
They're acting dumb now .
Initially they would have thought that by throwing rocks and trying to scare you that you'd never come back . That didn't work .
They now know to shut up . It's another method to discourage you from going there . Nothing to see here . They do get bored with it all and just want some peace and quiet considering people are using those tracks during the day time as well .
They were probably watching you from a distance the whole time .

Re: Went bushwalking--never again--whats out there?
4 of us Went out there today aprox 2 pm . Nothing much heading in, lots of bird noises, walked to the creek, 19 new rock stacks were up. 1 very tall, got pic of ron standing next to it. Proceeded on track and hung the fruit and left a jar of honey hidden, again only bird sounds then we walked up the creek, i waited with 1 guy while ron walked down the creek bed further with the other guy (dont know wether they want to be named) They are on this site.
Ron and guy saw lots of tree snaps and saw 2 clear very recent foot prints with only 4 toes.
They came back to me and guy lol, we had to leave as i had to meet someone at home.
On our way out we stopped and listened and heard very unusual noises. 1 was distinctly of a baby crying ( i know this sounds uncanny but it is identical to the babys cry we had bought with us the last time we went out). This crying went on for some time.
Then what followed was grunt grunt from behind us on top of a ridge.(sounded like a ape noise.)
Each time the baby cried the double grunt noise came.
Eventually the baby cry stopped, then 3 differnt directions came grunting, like 3 were all talking together.
I have never heard this out there before.
Going back out again in day to check fruit and see if fingerprints have been left on jar.
Really exciting to hear new vocals.

Thats a fancy stack. They must be mimicking your doll. Sounds like they were taking the piss at you guys. Great there was a few of you to hear the vocals.Id be freaking if i heard that out there on my own... Weird! Thanks for your update Dee. Re: Went bushwalking--never again--whats out there?
Thats an impressive rock stack. That would of taken some time to construct...
Note the use of the smaller rocks as it gets closer to the top.
Assuming this is a Yowie structure, its interesting to note that when they were building this they actually searched for the smaller rocks to place higher. Obvious yes - but it highlights that there is planning and higher thought patterns going on....plus he/she was probably bored!

Re: Went bushwalking--never again--whats out there?
Hi, Ron and i went out today to have a look around. Many animals were out. Frogs, birds, wallabies and red belly black snakes---eek. No vocals or anything . All the fruit was gone along with the ties. The honey jar was nearly in the same spot and the screw lid was off it standing on lip edge up against the jar and the tree. The lid was wedged in between. Half of the honey was gone. It was well hidden from people. I took it home to fingerprint and the rest of the honey spilt out all over the outside side of the jar-dam.
hung up 2 bananas, 2 pairs and 2 apples, , well hidden .
We will go back 2moro night to see if there gone and ill replace the honey jar again.
Same rock stacks were there along with 4 new ones, including another tall one.
Next time we are going to hang all the fruit together in the same tree and ill leave the sony audio recorder with it hidden, to see if we can hear anything while we are not there. It has 18 hour recording time. I will also try purchase another one at a later date to leave down the creekbank to hear what is making these rock stacks, if it is people i will hear them talking.
Big pitty we got no vocals today even though the hair stood up on my and rons back while we took the fruit out of the bag--felt like we were being watched--who knows. C what happens tomorrow night. Dee

Re: Went bushwalking--never again--whats out there?
Hi, yet another dissapointing night.
All the fruit and ties were gone once again, except for a banana which i only hid laying down on the ground behind a log. When i saw it, its skin was intact with a slit in it, all the insides were eaten and it was sitting upright behind the log.
Still dont know what is eating all the fruit.
No vocals, and only 1 rock thumped. Plenty of wildlife , barking and possums around.
I re left the honey jar and we will return in daylight hours for it just to see if i can get fingerprints and to see if the lid gets screwed of again. Then will not go back out for a few months as it has really died down.
We walked a long way up the creek and sat in the dark for some time on the creek bank-nothing.
I have to say though, we left at 8pm (this is the time we would normally enter??)
Though 2 stayed back after 8pm and said they still heard nothing.
Extremely frustrating trying to work out there patterns. Dee
