Sasquatch sighting reported in Yukon

A group of people in the Yukon community of Teslin say they saw a bushman or a sasquatch over the weekend, the second sighting in the area in about a year.

Nine people, some of them children, say a large human-like figure covered in hair passed by a window of a house. They later saw it standing behind an abandoned car close to houses in the community which is located 180 kilometres east of Whitehorse.

Chucka Choumant and Trent Smarch are two of the people who say they saw the bushman.

The men say they heard trees snapping and creaking even though there was no wind at the time. They say the figure was about eight or nine feet tall and that it was moving fast, too fast for them to keep up even when they were running.

The men say the creature left behind some evidence. They point to a footprint about twice the size of a human's. A small patch of hair found in the area has been sent to a conservation officer in Whitehorse. Those who saw the bushman say they would like the sample to be tested for DNA.

Tales of sasquatch sightings aren't new in Teslin. Doug Smarch remembers hearing about a large hairy man coming close to the community about 40 years ago.

"There's old time stories. They said there were such things. I don't think that nine people that seen it could tell the same story. They wouldn't be able to tell the same story if it wasn't true," says Smarch.

It may have been a sasquatch, or perhaps some kind of bushman, but some people in the Yukon say they saw something larger than life pass by their house.

The report comes out of the community of Teslin, about 180 kilometres east of Whitehorse. Nine people there say a large, human-like figure covered in hair passed by the window of a house over the weekend.

Shortly afterwards, they say they saw it standing beside an abandoned car near some other homes.

Two men, Chuck Chouman and Trent Smarch, said they heard trees snapping and creaking as the mysterious figure went by, and they say there was no wind at the time.

They said whatever they saw was three metres tall and moving fast, too fast for them to keep up with on foot.

And they say they have double proof this isn't just another tall tale: a huge footprint, twice the size of a human's, and a small patch of hair.

The men are hoping conservation officials in Whitehorse will run DNA tests on the hair.

This isn't the first time there has been a reported sasquatch sighting in the area around Teslin.

In June 2004, a man and a woman reported seeing a tall figure completely covered in hair standing by the highway they were travelling on. They said as they looked back the figure crossed the highway in two giant strides and vanished into the bush.

For thousands of years sightings of the elusive, bipedal ape-man have been reported, throughout North America's Pacific northwest and as far away as China.

The creature has also been a feature of aboriginal folklore.

My daughter Becca is currently holidaying in Canada. She's going on a Sasquatch search that they run out of Vancouver Island. She's my girl that animals are always attacking, so I bet that if their is a Sasquatch in the vicinity it will come out of the forest just for the pleasure of ponding her!

I was in Banff a few years back, skiing in Banff, and I did speak to on local who very matter of factly said "yeah, theres a family of saquatch right on the mountain (he pointed to it while we were waiting for the bus to take us to Lake Louise - I can't remember the name of the prticular mountain, but can easily point it out on a map) He told me a story of hiking with his girlfriend, and seeing several creatures from a distance. I have did hear a few other people say that there were rumours of such creatures about, but very few wanted to talk about it, most were quite happy to point out that it's easy to mistake a bear for something else. Though, remember, bears hibernate in winter - which is when the witness claimed to see the group of Sasquatch.

I wouldn't bet my life on his story, but it's still interesting...

Great report, how do the skeptics continue to totaly debunk the exsistance of the sasquach when there are still so many current reports coming out all the time.

I think having a skeptical mind is an important thing, believing every single bigfoot report you read is a crazy idea. I'm more inclined to not believe any reports without reasonable evidence.

Zee, I think most reasonable researchers into this field or any paranormal field will agree with you! You would be a fool not to ask questions and accept everything as gospel. I know with the things I experience I try to find other answers from the mormal realm first! LOL! Unfortunately not everything fits into a box!

Of course people who believe nothing are just as bad as those who accept everything

Long time no see - been having.. erm.. woman trouble, so to speak, she didn't like the idea of me vanishing into the Blue Mountains at the odd hour sof th enight. though it seems that issue has been aressed...

Dawn - yup - that is my point, when it doesn't fit into "a box" (I like the way you said that) then you have probably stumbled onto what we are all looking for. guess Im trying to say a sceptical mind produces the best evidence

Even though I've been out of the loop for a while, so to speak, it's always in my head, as I bug the locals about this sort of thing on pretty much all my trips, especially if I'm in an area that seems like a good habitat - Kinda like Banff.

There are four possible choices: Castle Mountain, Mt. Assiniboine, Mt. Ball, & Mt. Hector.

Those are the major mountains that can be seen from the Township of Banff.

My bet is he was pointing at either Castle Mountain or Mt. Hector. Both of these mountains have yielded Sasquatch reports before.

It's only a 2 hour drive to get to Banff, from where I live. I been there many time on research trips.

We have found footprints, heard vocalizations, & 5 members of the group (myself included) watched a tall, dark, bipedal creature cross a glacial mud flat, near a place known as Peyto Lake, in the Jasper National Park. We watched it through binoculars. It took 5 minutes to cross an area that took us half an hour to cross later on. It definately had a long stride & new the ground well.
