Do yowies track you if they think you saw them? Concerned.
3 to 4 years ago, in Broken Hill, my mother and I moved into a house near an oval and some scrubby area. About a week after we got there, one night we heard some snuffling and scrabbling sounds at the bottom of the front door. I opened the door and some 'thing' SCREAMED up at me through the screen door. It leaped off the veranda, over the fence, and up the road to the scrubby area, all the time making these horrific ai ai ai screech sounds, very rapid, running VERY fast. As it went off the veranda it's feet made a dooph dooph sound, maybe 3 doophs and it had gone over the fence. It sounded heavy, over 50 kilo, but maybe the size of a dog.
I couldn't see through the screen door, and by the time I'd unlocked and opened it, it had got away so fast it was already going out of sight, but from the height of the scream directed straight at me and the sounds of it's body as it spun around and leapt off, it seemed to be the size of large dog. It WASN'T a dog. The sound was literally blood chilling. I've lived in the bush most of my life, and maybe 10 years in the Hill. I have never heard anything like this animal, and neither has my 79 yo mother. The only thing I could describe it as was some kind of 'monkey demon', and I don't believe in demons, but that was the only description I could give of it.
Now to my concern. The way it screamed at me made me feel like "what the F did I do?!" Like I'd offended it to the core by opening the door. Mum felt the same. We heard nothing else and moved to a busier part of town a year ago. Just before Christmas I dropped off a few times, and visited with a friend who lives on the edge of town. I saw her again after the break and she said she, and her 17 yo son, heard someone walking around on the corrugated iron roof around 3 am. They were very frightened and counted to 3 and ran out the front door to see if they could see who it was. They didn't see anyone, but the house also sloped to the back, so they couldn't see the whole roof.
I've only just associated the 'demon thing' with yowies when I listened to some BF recordings. One sounded like a more mature version of what we heard. Some BF hunters say [tho I realise the US doesn't have the same BF's or conditions as Aust] that BF's will sometimes track you to your home if you see one. I'm concerned the thing on my friend's roof might be the same yowie, 3 years older. It can't have been much bigger because it would have gone through the roof. Maybe it saw me from the scrub. Maybe it recognised me. American BFs get on people's roofs when they want to snoop.
I'm going to see my friend tomorrow. I haven't seen her since I started putting this together. I'll get a better description from her, but from what she previously told me, sound of feet, weight, etc, I can picture juvenile yowie. I don't want to freak her out, but I think I need to warn her. Maybe it's just coincidence. But is it possible it has imprinted me, and recognised me? I was never afraid of the bush, now I don't want to go near the edge of town. Am I freaking out for nothing?

Hi Ellen. That sounds like it could be the smaller yowies. Sometimes called junjudee or junjarri among other names and around 3 ft tall and very stocky. Sounds like he gave you a bit of a shock there.
Id say it wanted you to know it was there orherwise could have easily heard you and took off if it wanted too. Im sure they are capable of remembering people but doubt hes stalking you although its not out of the question as not much is known about them other than they are curious and known to get a bit nutty and aggressive at times.
Maybe someone with some hands on experience could help you out. Probably best not to go out looking for him on your own!

Hey Ellen , thank you for sharing your experience with us .
We don't know everything but have heard many reports over the years involving women .
The first thing I think of when reading about your experience is that you and your friend are females . It is a fact that females emit pheromones . Some are chemical sex signals to attract males .
Your little friend MAY have been attracted by your chemical signal and when you reacted the way you did (rejected) he was offended , you may have been chemically advertising for a mate and weren't aware of it . These thoughts are in no way meant to offend you or any woman but should be considered .
There was a recent report of a family who were having trouble with yowies hanging around the daughters bedrooms at night . It was suggested by someone with experience of yowies around the house at night , and who had talked at length with Aboriginal elders , that items of female clothing should not be hanging on the clothes line as it puts the scent of female pheromones into the air . It was also suggested that the septic tank be dosed with a biodegradable fragrant scent to disguise the pheromones (contained in urine) in the tank .
In another report , a woman had a yowie howling or screaming from the other side of the valley when ever she had her period . She had to leave the home and stay somewhere else when she had her period .
Apparently in some remote Aboriginal communities the women sleep together in the middle of the room with the doors locked because of yowies . One report mentioned a yowie reaching through a hole in the wall and stroking the females hair . Personally I wouldn't recommend women walking alone in any forest or scrubland alone .
Having said all that , if it is a Junjurri , as Yowie bait has mentioned , then I wouldn't be freaking out too much . I do believe they remember scents but I can't imagine you've been targeted and I wouldn't be too concerned , just be aware , keep a nice piece of hikory (pick handle) with you in the house and don't make yourself a target especially at night or while alone .
These thoughts are only an educated guess . If you can get hold of someone to talk to an Aboriginal elder for you this would be better . From what I can remember , women are not supposed to talk to male elders .
Here is a website with what I believe to be various yowie calls

Hi Ellen,
Dont know if you do or dont but I have heard they are attracted to cigarette / tobacco smoke.
As someone said yours is more likely to be the smaller type of yowie which seems more usual for the drier semi desert areas
Not sure if this helps or not but wish you well for the future.

there is a story in US, a bigfoot named "fox" [google "bigfoot fox"].
Among other things about fox, Mr Fox loves tabacco leaves and his human friends always buy tabacco and peanut butter for him. And he ate these two together [eating, not just chewing].

sorry, my bad, google "bigfoot fox" doesn't really help.
Try "50 YEARS WITH BIGFOOT". It's a story about a baby bigfoot was rescued by the author's father, since then, the bigfoot named fox maintained a contact with the family till he dies. The bigfoot even invited the auther to visit him one week before he died. Eating tabacco is mentioned in this story.

Interesting story you gave us. I would of been quite shocked to have something screaming like that at my front door.
I concur with Rusty and YB - its probably picking up on scents and checking you out. As Rusty mentioned there are many gaps to fill in this mystery and this conclusion makes the most sense when cross checked with stories coming out of America and other parts of the world.
Whether it was a big or small version of the Yowie is probably dependant on the type of country you reside in. Seems like the smaller ones like the open areas more than the taller varieties....then again I am just guessing.

Thank you all so much. I would have been here days ago but our internet has gone haywire. I've got a small window of opportunity before it drops out again. The tobacco smoke might definitely be a factor why it came to our door. We were probably the only smokers in that street. Never heard about the tobacco thing. Thanks.
Talked briefly with my friend. She's still hearing strange noises, and is quite scared. I'll try and broach the subject of pheremones and maybe suggest some sort of plug in scent diffuser? [how embarrassing]. I wonder how something like anti-cat stuff around her yard would go?
I'm so grateful I've got people to talk to about this. I feel like I've got some useful tools [not you guys, lol]. Knowledge helps remove the fear of the unknown, and turn it into a healthy fear. I'll screenshot your replies and study them better later, when I lose internet. I'd better post this before I drop out. Just want to say thanks again.

My simple answer would be yes, via scent marking you.
Just my opinion

Some cctv cameras and bright l.e.d sensor lights may make your friend more at ease.

and yowie hate dogs, will kill them without hesitation. a typical reaction by dogs when they feel yowie presence is tail between legs and hide behind humans.
