Just to clear things up, i wasnt agreeing with the "This thread is bs" post. I was agreeing with another one of Scarts posts that was deleted that..umm i think suggested a more specific poll would be required to determine exactly what type of research everyone is doing or to define exactly what research entails..

I dont think this thread is bs. I find it interesting. Its a shame more researchers or lurkers dont share their results or experiences.

Sucks when things get deleted as it puts things out of context but i understand it must be done sometimes.

All Good Yowie bait. Would you like to put up a more refined Poll. I just made it simple. Really just wanted to see who is able to go out and who is not that's about it.

Its all fine with me. If people want to say what they get upto or what type of results and fndings then all the better. (detective) (taz)

I think its a great poll.

Great thing about this forum is that it brings people from all sides of the debate together.
The people who exercise research techniques regularly to those who sit on the fence, read and comment where necessary.

I bought some books of Dion years ago - and read everyone of them, some even more than once. What it gave me was a really good overview on the subject albeit based on the US situation more than here in Australia - but the reads were excellent to get a better understanding.

What was really interesting is that when I have been out in the bush - which is not that often, I have been able to understand the requirements for their sustainability, signs that they maybe around, using reports to identify possible hot spots and talking with like minded people.

So to know that there are people who also look it from different angles is reassuring because not everyone is able to 'beat around the bush' to get results. I respect those who do it and report back .... its great that they are sharing.

So the short answer - I am either a 2 or a 6 ?

Of my two earlier posts that were deleted, yeah, my first was out of line, but I led with the second post saying, "I retract what I said, this poll isn't bullshit, it is quite enlightening." (Yowie bait can back me on this).

I then went on to say the beef I have with this poll, is "field research" is too broad and I'll defined. Firstly, how do you choose your "field", and secondly what actions constitutes "research" when you get there, and isn't merely an exercise in Bushwalking Or camping?

(So thank-you to that mod, for removing my second post, and making me look like a bigger right royal dick than I am!)

What is research and what is the field, is relevant because take a face to face interview with a witness. Is that regarded as field research?

This isn't a poll of field research, it's a whose who, of who goes bush and how often, and who doesn't.

I'd like a poll of who the armchair researchers are, who look at data on the net, and analyse photos, footage, footprints, and interviews. Or is that all of us, by virtue of logging in here?

Yes i can back you up Scarts. You retracted your statement as you said in first paragraph of this post. I found it to be a reasonable and thought provoking post but may have been misconstrued by others. Hope thats a help!

Hey Scarts, good points, thanks for the clarification :)

Yes, I agree with your statement about the poll being a 'who's who and does what' exercise, I think that was all it was meant to be, and not a more in-depth snapshot of types of research and definitions of same.

With regard to your last query, I would say yes, but in part. There's a lot more to reading reports here and no more, compared to someone who does other non-AYR forum things, such as going through old papers, accessing archives or library articles, finds scientific articles of potential interest, interviewing people, etc. etc.

P.S. Thanks also to Yowie bait for the assurance of faith, I think any issue may have been cleared up now.

My way of thinking is that the term "field research" could be described as any activity that is undertaken in the outdoors in an effort to find, observe or detect any sign of the Yowie whether that be by visual or audio means. (phew that was a long sentence!).

Im not sure what the opposite of field research is (information research /studies?). To me one is not neccessarily better than the other, although a visual sighting will not happen in a library for instance . But both branches of research certainly have their place in the grand scheme of things.

To further confuse things I think my Number 5 as I explained earlier could be classed as "field work" as I am out in the "field" a lot but not specifically for yowie research but I am always on the look out whilst sitting / laying around watching the bush go about its business.

Hey all , although I get out in the bush whenever I can I definitely don't call myself a field researcher .
The word " researcher " to me indicates you do work after you have left the field , and I have more than enough work running
a small business to lump more on top
I am someone who loves being in the bush either with someone or alone , it doesn't worry me , I find the solitude is my happy place
Since being on this forum and being a computer lurker , it has opened my eyes to suspect things out there .
So in a nutshell I'm not a "researcher "as such but I get out as often as I can and keep my eyes wide open , take a heap of photos
check my trail camera ( I'm wrapt if I get a glimpse of a roo ) and hope that one day I take the golden photo
Cheers Greg

I'm not a researcher by any definition - I'm a 'crypto-enthusiast' by anyone's standards.

I read stuff and I watch stuff and I listen to stuff and I form opinions. That's not really research, so I can't claim to be a researcher.

I'd last about fifteen minutes in the bush. I know my limitations.

".... We live in an interactive REALITY where we change the world around us by changing what happens inside of us while we're watching - that is, our thoughts, feelings, and beliefs ...
From the healing of disease, to the lengths of our lives, to the success of our careers and relationships, everything that we experience as 'LIFE' is directly linked to what we 'BELIEVE'...."

Gregg Braden

This is exactly what life is about.....

We all believe what we want to believe in.

Scarts believes it's bullshit....!
Someone ! Not saying who, believes I'm drug fucked...!!!

Thats so fine IMO, each to their own belief.

I believe, until you see the spirit world (Yowies, etc) and witness it for a year, thats when you always see them.
Then you accept it, and realise that this 3rd dimension bubble that we inherent in this short period of time, is a bleep compared to what's REALLY out there.......!

Wake up, so to speak, stop being hunters and turn your fear into love.

I believed I was always going to see one flesh and blood, it took 12 years, but I believed it, and it happened. Then they...! Showed themselves in all sorts of dimensions etc...

Believe and it will happen, which is why I have quoted Gregg Braden's spot on quote.

Thank you
