Camping and hill climbing on dirt bikes at the moment in rough mountainous country 20 km's from Heathcote ,Vic and found this tooth on a heap of cow bones. It aint no cow tooth. What's people's opinion of this ?

Sorry, just saw your post now, and that looks mighty like a cat or fox canine tooth to me... but it also looks way too big for fox... I'm no dental expert though.

Thanks Shazzoir but it would have ten times the bulk of a fox tooth . I've skun many foxes. I'll get a better photo with something next to it tomorrow.

Perhaps a vet could identify the precise species it's from, or at least narrow it down to canine or feline?

First thoughts around the camp were that its a wedgy claw Rusty22 but its just too big and bulky, then we Googled panther tooth and came up with a perfect match.
I thought you had got some hairs DNA tested if i remember correctly Russell. Where did you get that done and what did it cost you if you dont mind saying please mate ?
Cheers.

I sent one hair sample to a friend who tested it . I have no idea where this happened or how much it cost , sorry .
As for the "tooth" , fascinating if it is .

Imho you are looking at a premolar. The fat end looks like it has enamel while the tapered end looks like bone.
