Newbie from Ormeau, Gold Coast.

Hello all, this is my first post on the forum, I've been fascinated by the big foot from a young age after discovering a book on the subject in my then local public library in the mid 80s. Then came the internet, the freedom to explore the subject on a whole new level. M. K. Davis and his interpretation of the Patterson Gimlin film, Tony Healy and Paul Croppers excellent book (of course someone borrowed it, never to be seen again) it made come to the conclusion that something is out there and turned for me from casual interest to belief.
Living in Cairns and now in Ormeau, it gave me the opportunity to go what I call "yowie tripping" visiting the places where people have had encounters, asking questions of the locals every now and then (mostly at the local pub, with mixed responses, most people think I'm a idiot, some pull your your leg, and a small few maybe relate a second or third hand encounter) Still its alot of fun, my wife good humouredly tags along mostly taking the mickey out of me!
I'm enjoying the site and have followed Rustys YouTube channel for sometime(sad to see he is stepping back, but perfectly understandable given the remarkable effort he has put in over the years) I also find the yowie chronicles very interesting and Tony has really got something happening there.
So that's me

Whilst Ormeau is quickly becoming heavily populated it is still the gateway to some extremely interesting country

I know Ormeau very well, having lived in the immediate vicinity for 9 years. My wife and dogs explored every nook and cranny for many miles around... beautiful country (though nary a whisker of the hairy blokes was to be found).

If they are still there they only pass through as it is now very heavily populated. If you follow the creeks you may find some sign though we never did

Hello Dion, thanks for your welcome.
I talked to one bloke in the Ravenshoe pub who reakons his mate seen one standing on the side of the road one night, been quite a few sightings around Ravenshoe and the Cairns hinterland over the years.
The most interesting was talking to a bloke (funny enough again in a pub up in Kuranda!) he swears he had a mate that's dirt bike broke down in the Black Mountain Road region out of Kuranda, while he was sitting there waiting for help he reakons he seen two down in the gully, valley below him, one larger one and a smaller one. Apparently he watched them for a minute or two before they disappeared back into the jungle(if you've been up that way you know you understand what I mean by jungle!) when his mates eventually arrived to retrieve him and his bike he was pretty freaked out swearing he seen two yowies.
I myself was once pulled at the start of Black Mountain Rd waiting for some friends to meet me for a ride, when a older bloke walked passed and asked "you going riding up Black Mountain mate, I said yeah, he then said watch out for yowies! I asked what he meant but he just laughed and kept walking!
I believe a lot of people up that way would have had experience's and encounters, I'm sure it's a bit of a local secret they don't share with outsiders.
Up in the Cairns region there are mountains and deep valleys that I'm sure white man and aboriginal people have never been. The perfect habitat for yowies to live and remain undetected.

Thanks Bluedog for sharing those, yep would have to agree about habitat certainly plenty of areas for things to go unnoticed.

Hi Bluedog,

The bad one at Ormeau I suspect is gone. I haven’t heard any Reports of him since around 2005. He was bad News and gained quite a reputation.

There are still the odd Report coming in from the back of Ormeau Hills, The Plateau and Barrenjoey Drive. Recently we received a Report from Buccun/Wolfdene, which is linked to the same stretch of bush.

There is a good way in via Upper Ormeau Road. It’s a dirt road on the right, that turns into a 4WD track.

Thankyou Dean, I was living on Vaughan drive near where I believe you had your encounter and often walked my blue heeler up and town the powerline cuttings. I'm familiar with the track you mentioned riding my Dr650 up through there. I now live on the other side of the highway. I was living at my brother in laws acreage, who would have been living there at the time of your encounter. I asked him if he had heard of any yowie activity in the area but he just laughed and fobbed the subject of. I haven't been off the bike exploring, as I'm always by myself. Even though I haven't had an encounter of my own, once you believe the Australian bush is never the same again.
