Surprise, surprise!

As many will already know, Finding Bigfoot team members Ranae Holland, James "Bobo" Fay, Matt Moneymaker, and Cliff Barackman have given up their hunt for sasquatch. The series ended earlier this year after a ground breaking 100 episodes.

For me, the highlight of any show I managed to watch was the Town Hall meeting where eye-witnesses related their experiences which were later re-enacted.

I could take or leave all the walking around in the forest at late at night doing wood knocks and squatch calls until the wee, small hours. However, it did help to fill the one hour time slot…

Whether you liked Finding Bigfoot or not, it definitely helped bring the subject of Bigfoot/Sasquatch and even Yowies (they once did an Aussie special) to a much wider audience. The series lasted 7 years on Animal Planet, so they must have got the formula right.

In the final episode, the team travels to Willow Creek California to help celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the most famous piece of Bigfoot footage, the Patterson Gimlin film. The discovery of a new copy of the film (perhaps the ‘lost’ original) shows the clearest image of the creature yet seen. I look forward to seeing more about that!

You have to wonder, though… If they ever found conclusive evidence, like a lengthy daylight video sequence with extreme close ups of the monster during Episode 1, would it be shown? Maybe not, as they wouldn’t need the other 99 episodes if they had already found it! The goal was obviously to build suspense over the journey and keep the viewers tuned in. That's where the money is.

So at least for the time being, it’s bye bye to Finding Bigfoot!

Are they going to change the name of the series?

Watched the penultimate Finding Bigfoot episode during the week. Well respected researcher Bill Munns detailed the finding of a 4th copy of the Patterson Gimlin film. This has enabled using modern digital layering techniques to produce one extremely clear frame using the all the details from the 4 known copies.

This enhanced frame is the clearest yet! In theory, the entire footage can be reproduced this way on a frame by frame basis. This may happen later. Unfortunately, the original is still lost. It may have been destroyed when the Film Laboratory it was at went bust and all assets were removed. Anyway, that's the story being told.

The final and 100th episode of Finding Bigfoot will be aired on the Animal Planet this Thursday, 30th August between 9.30 and 10.30 pm. I'll be watching and recording.
