The curious response of the Ranger
Finally managed to speak to a local Ranger today, in relation to significantly increased helicopter activity in my area. As in, circling over the forest .. day and night. Primarily, I was curious about the night activity ... since spotlights are sometimes involved. Ranger's explanation was satisfactory (increasing use of choppers in Fire Risk management), and makes perfect sense. However, at the end of the conversation I casually and laughingly mentioned that a neighbour suggested it's Yowie-related. The Ranger's response was instantaneous nervous laughter and VERY rapid change of subject.
This could be regarded as a normal response, from an officer of the Australian Govt (who must appear detached and 'clinical'), but the shrink in me cannot pretend that it wasn't also unusual, in a situation where the idea proffered is patently absurd. What I mean by that is, if someone suggests 'the tooth fairy did it!', our response is not 'nervous'. It's scathing, disinterested, or amused - but never nervous.
This surprised me. I really hadn't expected such a response to the question. Would be very interested in collecting 'cold call' responses from a number of Rangers, working in hot areas. Sneak it up on them, and watch them closely as they respond. I'm certain this would be most revealing. If anyone has any experience of speaking to Rangers about the Hairy Bloke, I'd love to know the outcome!

Re: The curious response of the Ranger
Once spoke with a Ranger at Tarra-Bulga National Park in Victoria after a sighting there, turns out that was a hoax however.
Anyway I approached the Ranger knowing full well about the Yowie sighting there and politely started conversation, I didnt want to come out and ask about the Yowie thing straight off so I asked "Have you ever had any Big Cat sightings around here?" to which he responded "No, but we have had a yowie sighting lately". Thats when my interest picked up, and his a bit flat he then became very uneasy about the conversation, I then proceeded to tell him about my own sighting of one in between Dubbo and Coonabarabran. Thats when he started to go a bit white and tried to laugh the subject off in a polite manner without trying to offend me in anyway. The conversation ended pretty quickly after that and he preceded to go back to work I went my way and he his.
The story of Tarra-Bulga can be read here http://www.yowiefile.com/The_Yowie_File ... _2006.html

It is an odd response. I spent many years dealing with some of the ... ahem ... nuttier members of our community, while employed by the Govt. When members of the public hit you with oddball theories etc, laughing it off is not kosher - at all. The response should always be 'polite nodding', and a gradual drawing back to the topic at hand.

Hi yes speaking of rangers I got caught riding an unregistered trail bike out in the beerwah forest and I got talking to them about how dark some of the forest is in certain areas out there. Their response was exact words were, you would not believe what goes on out here, and they would not elaborate any further and drove off.

"witches" are mostly working class single women over the age of 40, and the odd overweight bloke who still lives with Mum at age 37.Yowie bait wrote: Wed Aug 29, 2018 10:28 am

Re: The curious response of the Ranger
The tragic Daniel Morcombe case... his body was dumped in Beerwah State Forest.
I have read reports here on AYR of people hearing things, and I think, an actual sighting or two, in this BSF area. It's a dumping ground and meeting spot for many a nefarious use I suspect.

Re: The curious response of the Ranger
A fellow researcher from my Blue Mountains group showed my Glenbrook Yowie video I took in 2013 to some National Parks employees he knew from his days in the Volunteer fire brigade. He said can you take a look at this video and tell me what you think. There were three of them and they said finally someone has filmed it (Meaning A Yowie). One of them even said they had seen it while using binoculars while checking on Sub Contractors who were doing work for the National Parks in the Glenbrook area. She said she thought it was a huge pig until it walked on two legs and said it looked huge even from far away. They know they are there but won't and Can't say they exists.

Re: The curious response of the Ranger
Once the authorities openly acknowledge a situation exists then they're expected to do something about it. Look at the policy decisions made at any level of government from local councils to the Federal Parliament - the authorities won't do anything unless they're in danger of losing their jobs (or being prosecuted) if they don't do it.
Yowies are not something anyone can easily explain, control, or gain political brownie points for discussing, so it's covered up at the grass-roots level. People who know about them from first-hand experience also know better than to mention it for fear of the consequences and the resulting hardship they and their families will endure. It's not worth the risk to be honest, so they keep quiet. Who can blame them?
If even one of these politicians thought they could bolster their own political success by discussing Yowies, they'd never shut up about them. They're obsessed with schools, roads, public transport and hospitals because that's where the votes are. Even those topics wax and wane - sometimes it's 'law and order' or some other topic that becomes the election-deciding one, but it's always something that can be legislated about in the Parliament. Yowies, as we know, are elusive and unlikely to donate money to a political party, so they're not a priority in the way that Chinese property developers are (for example).
No one's going to win an election by spending taxpayer's money on Yowie hunting - their political opponents would have a field day with it.
Here's one example of a politician wanting to find the Grampians Puma...there's no prize for guessing what the reaction was...
https://www.news.com.au/national/victor ... 1aaf679637
The political system itself prevents this topic from being seriously investigated. Our political system is based on economics, not reality. The priority is the making and distributing of money. There's no money or votes in Yowies, so it becomes an inconvenience to them.
I honestly think it's a matter of sheer small-mindedness that prevents this subject from being properly studied (or government funded). It's not a conspiracy in the way that Watergate was, or the Iran-Contra scandal was, it's a conspiracy of silence based on absolute disinterest. It's just too much like hard work for those in Parliament to even bother with. They're too busy trying to stab each other in the back to deal with anything they can't make a speech about at a fancy dinner.
Sorry...rant over.

Re: The curious response of the Ranger
Bit off topic:
I once had a read of a long archived forum thread where many Aussie dirtbike riders tell stories about what they saw in the bush (usually middle-of-nowhere area). I can't find this thread anymore. Sad.
Though only one guy mentioned yowie, other stories are equally interesting/weird.
Dope tree plants might not be weird, but deadly trap installed in those field are scary. A trap that if you fell in, you would be turned upside down and something cut your throat at the same time.
UFO is another account. The rider saw it, scared to death, rode away for another 15kms no stop then found out his go-pro was turned off itself, therefore no evidence footage produced.
Naked girls riding horse;
Two police officer having sex;
Wild parties with drugs;
A cabin with a pentagon sign and blood mark everywhere on the floor;
Two retired men (60 age +) seen in the Victoria bush who said they walked to there from Canberra;
A brand new luxury car seen in an area where Land Cruisers will have trouble to reach, owner of the car hanged himself near by;
A woman in white (ghost like) dress, running and crying toward a bike rider who rides alone. The biker ran off. After that he told his friend, maybe he was supposed to stop and ask what's going on, maybe even call police. However, he said the odd seeing what he saw is just too....not possible.
And here is my favourate:
A group of dirt bike riders were riding through mid of no where. One of the biker's bike got mechanic issues. The chain fell off. After investigation, they believe a bolt/washer combo broke apart they had to find them to screw on to fix the bike. At about that time, a swaggie showed up and said G-day. After the conversation about what problem these riders are having, he went on walking and returned after a while, with both missing parts. While the guys are repairing the bike, the swaggie went to the direction where he came from. It took 20~30mins to fix the bike, the group kept going in the same track that swaggie walked away, never able to catch him up again.
Back to the topic, and yes, there will be many things can happen in the bush, i hope ranger can get 200k pay a year otherwise no way I can do that job.
======================================================
Even more off topic:
Read on if you are curious about why the swaggie story is my favourate, here I have another comparable story and an explanation:
My mother in low once told me a story when she was young. The place is a tourist beach in China, she went there with friends. While swimming in the water, for some reason she cannot remember, she suddenly found herself swimming alone and very far from the beach. She can't recall whether there was just "no one around her" or "no one can be seen in far away". Anyway, while feeling fatigue, she 'd like "oh s#@t, do I have energy to go back?" Just about that moment, she said a very handsome guy just showed up from no where, as her how is she, tired or something? need help? then the guy said he will swim with her back to the beach, if she really couldn't keep going anymore, he will be like "I am here, don't worry....". So they swam slowly back to a safe distance of the beach where my MIL were again surrounded by other people and friends. When she looked back and just wanted to say thank you, that guy vanished, not seen again at all.
I used to joke that that man is your grandson he went tru time machine to rescue grandma. But I have a better theory now:
Somewhere, some location on this planet, is access to somewhere else, they could be a portal to another dimension or a restricted area of non-human existence. Whoever set up those "access" might have a guardian/gateman to prevent/guide random encounters from going further, in a friendly way at best. Once the encounters are believed to safely be escorted away, such guardian/gateman will usually leave/vanish asap to avoid further unnecessary interactions such as "hey bro, thank you! You want catch up for a beer now?"

And not super surprising. Given the amount of time Rangers spend in our wilderness areas ... quietly, in camos

Really, the more time you spend deep in nature, the more you know that you just don't know what you think you know. Cities have a way of making us think we're fully evolved and all knowing.

It took 20~30mins to fix the bike, the group kept going in the same track that swaggie walked away, never able to catch him up again.
Back to the topic, and yes, there will be many things can happen in the bush, i hope ranger can get 200k pay a year otherwise no way I can do that job.

Entertaining to say the least, and food for thought as to what exactly goes on in the wilderness. Many of which probably go unnoticed.

Re: The curious response of the Ranger
That’s a good find donjoman. A national park worker acknowledging that you might see a Yowie.
A lot of those places he mentioned have had Yowie sightings. I’ve been to Comboyne a few years ago
but would like to explore around those other places he mentioned.
Another mysterious section of the great divide.
