Tree Hide
Have anyone used tree hides as viewing platforms in the field?
I've read about hunters staking out deer trails in hides and having their kill taken away by bigfoot. Has this happened here at all?
Maybe something off the ground in a hotspot would give a better field of view. Or is this moot point because the Yowie knows you're there anyway.
I have a photo of a huge inflatable walkway dropped by blimp on to a rain forest canopy in French Guyana if anyone's interested. I'd guess a blimp hovering overhead would give the game away though.

hi mate havent heard of them being used for yowie hunting but have spent some hours myself in a tree waiting for pigs...you'd be surprised how much more wild life you see from a height...some of them just walk under you not looking up and never knowing you're there...not sure about yowie's though

Thanks Bowhunter. I found this site which has some cool tree hides that this guy in Old Blighty watches foxes from.

I must admit they're pretty impressive, especially the photos he took.
Thanks for your post.

there was a report of a guy up a tree getting some nuts, and on his way down he meet a big fella, the story goes: they fell to the ground wrestled around, it put his face to his and screamed (I reakon it wanted to kiss him) so he poked it in the eye, then it bit half of his hand off and he ran away.

Several reasons why I wouldn't want to be up in a tree observing a yowie.
1. If it see's you, I assume they can climb.
2. No room to escape.
3. The possibility of falling on a yowie & having your arms ripped off and used to beat the snot out of you with them.
4. I can't climb trees very well.
Oh, and Tommi, that reminds me of a report of someone encountering a bigfoot in the states. This guy found one asleep, so he (wait for it) grabbed it's feet to try & drag it away. The bigfoot awoke, uppercutted the mate. When the mate came to, he bigfoot was gone & the mate had a broken jaw.

I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run. He's fuzzy. Get outta here.

The boys at the GCBRO have used them, in fact a lot of Deer hunters use them particularly in the U.S.
I've always wanted one and most probably will get one in the future, but as some of the comments indicate here, it's a more than obligating position!
It would be more of a daylight observation post, as there is little the point if it's dark - can't see a thing. I no longer like using IR because it's my belief they can detect it.
You need to do your homework in terms of a good position/location etc and hope one comes bye while thinking of other matters and/or an agressive or curious one. They don't normally become this way until the cloak of darkness, which as I said, is a huge disadvantage to us - and a large one to them.
What we really need to do is invest in some good tree mounted cam's with triggers, although probably due to the IR triggers in these units, nobody has had any luck thus far in any Country.

What about getting some of those big wooden crates, and putting them in a tree. I know it's not much, but it'd do for the time being, right?

For that matter you could simply 'climb' a tree. I like my comfort, plus the fact you can sleep in them without falling out of the tree.

I couldn't find a scanner, so I used my digi to take some photos of the article.

If you look past the writing of the article it is interesting if it actually happened. Now this brings me to the photo of the mans hand, personally it looks like an accident with a corrosive substance, however I can be wrong and it could be the real deal.

some people say it is too clean of a scar to be a bite. Some say it looks like chemical damage etc but when you consider the surgery he would've gone through to save his hand i reckon i can believe it. I just dont reckon he'd put himself on the front of a newspaper if he were b.sh!tting. Seems abit too far to only clain your hand was bitten off by a yowie.I know alot of people claim to have seen them that havent but i dunno about claiming to loose half your hand.
