I dont know the legal ramifications but i doubt they would use it if it was illegal. Just goes to show how they work though to just take your stuff and use it as they please without your consent because they can.Yowie Chaser wrote: Sun Mar 03, 2019 8:58 pm Hey Guys just curious i filmed some stuff yesterday & tonight it was used in the channel 7 news.

If the material is under copyright they should be seeking permission, for sure.

It's a grey area. Because your work is on a public forum technically they can use it at will, but this is only because the laws have not yet caught up with the technology. The big$ news organisations are working hard to stop the public from using their material, especially in the EU... but this is mainly because their bottom lines are collapsing in this 'new age' of broadcasting.Yowie Chaser wrote: Sun Mar 03, 2019 8:58 pm Hey Guys just curious i filmed some stuff yesterday & tonight it was used in the channel 7 news.

As YowieBait suggests, if the roles were reversed you could get your channel shut down by YouTube under pressure from the news corporations regardless of the existing laws. If they broadcast their work on YouTube you could request the same, but because it was on their own network you would be asking the fox to protect the chickens, as it were.
If you wanted to give it a go you could contact the network with a carefully worded, polite but firm legal sounding letter... you never know they might apologise for not asking your permission and even send you a few dollars as recompense after the fact?
