Witches Falls - Tamborine Mountain
Hey guys,
I'm showing our beautiful country off to a family friend from overseas, and I took him on the Witches Falls circuit on Tamborine Mountain, right at the bottom before the natural lagoon, there is a massive fig tree surrounded by palms that drop their fronds all over the ground, this makes following the trail a bit tricky, and I inadvertently took what I thought was the trail, however it started to get a bit rough and narrow and then went off the side of a cliff.
The trail that I followed was worn but had no boot / foot prints, the ground was wet and moist, but one thing I remember was like the impression of what could of been toes sliding in the mud, I thought that was interesting at the time but I didn't really think much more it as I was trying not get my international visitor lost (it was bad enough they were nervous most of time), also a lot of the logs that crossed the (animal) trail were stepped on and crushed too.
Anyhow, I thought I would mention it if anyone was looking for a promising area to check out, just be careful of snakes, I nearly stepped on a Marsh snake and he didn't appreciate it and made it known.
Bottom of Witches Falls Circuit if you come in via the left it and follow it down to the Fig tree at the bottom(you'll know the one when you see it - it's huge), you should be able to find the trail from there looking west.

Hi Yowie Chaser,
I've attached a google maps capture, showing the car park and road it's on, and a bit of a mud map, the circle is the fig tree and where the palm tree fronds are all over the ground, the broken line is the track I was talking about, I hope that helps.

Re: Witches Falls - Tamborine Mountain
Witches Falls is the walk I was referring to on World Bigfoot Radio last week.
I have walked that track countless times over the decades... even filmed cockatoos chewing into trees for the grubs high up in the early stages (leaving perfect 'Yowie bite marks')... not once did I do the walk thinking of Yowies though. Once I started actively looking for them I stuck to lesser known, non-Nat Park tracks because I always had my dogs with me.
There has been activity there before and I distinctly remember often hearing tree knocks as I entered the lower stages, but always put them down to palm seeds falling
... now though, I am not os sure palms were the culprits

The subject of birds and yowie researching is really interesting and I personally think a lot of tree damage and sounds are wrongly thought to be caused by yowies; I heard the seeds falling too, the birds knock them down when they pick at them in the tree tops, and interesting thing to note is that they will drop more seeds when we started making more noise (talking), which could be a great indicator if something is coming through the forest.

Let me know how you go if you end up checking it out, I'll be interested to see if you can spot anything else up there, it would be great to find another seasonal lagoon up there that isn't on the tourist map, prime location for some trail cameras.

If you're after another spot, Sandy Creek Circuit is a good walk, about 20years ago I found some saplings that where broken with a twisting action at about 8-10ft high. access is via Knoll Rd. [-27.915009, 153.179699]
Have fun.

Re: Witches Falls - Tamborine Mountain
Hey Tommie went for a walk up there today, 1st i got rained on then i got eaten by mosquito. OMG they are full on in there.
Now i couldn't remember where you said to go, just looking now. ill have to go back, i walked from the other end as well lol.
But before the zig zag bit heading out & up the hill, just before it there is a wall of rocks. i stopped there to video. rocks started flying down at me lol.
I heard people talking thought they where throwing the rocks but no one turned up. i had one rock fly straight over my head, came from the hill & landed a bit in front in the gully. got it all on video. you dont see it but you hear it.

How bad are the mosquito's! I've done a couple of trails in Tambo and that has to be only place that they are that bad!Yowie Chaser wrote: Wed Apr 03, 2019 12:21 am Hey Tommie went for a walk up there today, 1st i got rained on then i got eaten by mosquito. OMG they are full on in there.

Is the wall of rocks that clearing you were telling me about? That looked pretty sketchy, perfect place to sit and watch people walk on by, and so many great places to hide in, but who in the right mind would want to be sitting up in there with so many mosquito's (and snakes).
I forgot to mention in that lagoon clearing I heard something move away in the tree line, most likely a paddymellon, but who knows.
Thanks for going up there and checking it out, I enjoyed the videos, I'm really glad it wasn't a waste of your time and something yowish happened.
Keep up the great work.

Re: Witches Falls - Tamborine Mountain
Hi,
Sorry to hijack this post but I was just at Sandy Creek Circuit today and had a weird experience. As my son (he is only 4) and I got to the boulder field he kept asking can you hear those big foot steps? I stopped but honestly dismissed it and kept walking, he ran ahead and picked up large blue berries he spotted. I told him to put them down when one was thrown almost at his hands. It didn't drop from a tree it was as if it was 'pegged'. I immediately told him to drop them and move it, thinking to myself if it was in my head, when another flies between us. I kept my head down and pushed my son along the path when he stops and grabs his nose. He continued to complain for a solid 500m that this place STINKS! I honestly could not smell anything. I asked, what it smelt like and his response was "cat pee and elephants butt." I query that and he says the grossest smell you could imagine. After a while, maybe 300m, he acknowledged the smell leaving, while I'm bribing him with anything to race me. I felt like we were being watched at times but that the throwing was more playful and nothing malicious.
I've lived in the hinterland a while now and heard stories, thought it possible but nothing beyond that.
I have sharp senses and I know my son's are sharper, so I trust what he was saying. Has anyone experience anything there before??
Thanks,
Jane.

Fascinating Jane, thanks very much for sharing. The area has some sightings but mostly seem to be from a while ago.
Sounds like your walk had some classic hallmarks. Surprised you didn't smell it, but as you said kids can be more sensitive and there may (may) be some hormone mix that makes him more sensitive, or more sensitive to that kind of smell/hormones.
