In 1945 USAAF Liberator bomber the "Beautiful Betsy" went missing with the loss of 8 lives.
The wreckage was not discovered until 1994.
Great day out, no yowie but if a aeroplane can elude searchers for 50 years?????!??

Sorry it's Kroombit Tops, this area is incredibly remote in Central Qld. Quite the trek just to get there.
I rode my motorbike to the site.
Central Qld can get very dry, maybe that's why there's not many reports from the Rockhampton region?

Hey Blue dog thanks for sharing.
You are quite right if something stationary can remain undetected for 50 years then..... something that is able to move has better chances of remaining undetected for a lot longer.
Is there a camping spot close by the plane? could be a quite a haunted spot?

Yes Dion there is a camp ground approximately 15kms from the site, it's around a 50km trip from Calliope in Central Qld most of it on dirt roads and Bush tracks to reach the site, Kroombit tops is a spooky place and I've never felt comfortable when I'm up there.ive been to the wreck a couple of times and the last visit I was lucky enough to be there alone with no-one around for miles, it was very strange feeling standing amongst the wreckage imagineing that morning so long ago,
It is incredibly remote thick bushland and escarpment country, with few visitors.
Perfect yowie habitat!
The wreck was found by a ranger clearing a fire break and he noticed something shining on a hillside in the distance.
Well worth a visit if you are ever in the region
Sorry if it's a little of topic, but interesting non the less.
Cheers
