Prints

Unread post by thehairyone »

Hi all , found these prints in my yowie spot on Friday ,
They were on a track that is rarely used by people , about 20 ft apart , and heading in the same direction
I wasn't able to give exact measurements as I didn't have my "yowie gear " with me as I was doing a spot of recon for gold prospecting
but I would put them both at around 300 mm , interestingly Pic1 seems to have a kink to the left at the heal and 2 years ago I found and took a cast
of a slightly smaller print ( it was 240 mm ) with a similar kink to the left Print 3 ( cast isn't the best as it was my first attempt , but you can see the toes and kink ) this was in the same area ( prob about 5 ks as the crow flies )
Print 2 didn't photograph the best but you can still make out the toes and the shape of the foot
I am going to go back either tues or wed and cast the better print Cheers Greg

Great find, the kink in the heel of print one is quite unusual, the print of the toes can be seen clearly and looking at the picture of the trail you wouldn't think it's a place where a person would walk around bare footed!
What was the width of the tracks? How long is the blade of the knife shown in the picture?
Have you had any yowie related or unusual experiences in the area?
Thanks for sharing the find with us.
The more I learn, the less I know.

I think everyone needs to carry a tape measure with them to properly show the length and width of the prints the find.

Hi Dan , yep I totally agree and I normally do have one with me in my kit , but as I was in the area for something different I didn't have my usual gear with me ,big oops on my part
Hi Bluedog, the blade on the machette is 300mm and the print would of been about 150mm wide , I am going back to measure and cast etc asap
( the spot is about 2.5 hrs away ) work permitting . I have been going to this area for over 8 years and have lots of things happen , at least 4 different types of vocalizations , several pics , tree knock , rock clacking , prints , suspect things happening to my cameras , lots of tree breaks and trees woven between trees and have been chased out , yep ive had a few experiences

It may pay to do what I'm planning on doing it next to the first aid kit in the Boot is a Yowie just in case kit. Including tape measure casting material, small torch etc.

Hairyone, how have you ruled out wallaby, kangaroo, etc?

I notice it appears to have 3 toes, is that right?

Hi Black , its definitely not a roo , wallaby , wombat or deer , although they are all in the area ,I see their prints
all the time and know the difference this was far too large .There is definitely 5 toes , after I took the pic I put my hand
in the print and I had a finger in each toe , if you blow the pic up you can see them all

Greg,
Are you saying the kink is from the same animal two years ago?
If you’re saying that the 300mm and 240mm print is from the same animal 2 years apart, that’s some very interesting scientific information right there. If you can get the exact dates someone could calculate how fast this yowie is growing.

Hi Thumper im not saying that they are from the same critter coz I wasn't there , but just that they were in the same general area ,with a similar kink , they are a few ks apart , but the first was cast on 03/01/18 and the second was found on 12/02/20
