Yowie Babies

Unread post by Ben Mook »

Hi All,

Does anyone have stories or have heard stories involving hearing Yowie babies making noises in the bush?
definitely a topic that should be discussed.

Thanks,

Ben.

Hi Ben. I have seen a baby one. It made a noise like "yip yip yip " which alerted us to its presence. We watched each other for awhile then it moved along the branch and kind of dissapeared. Next thing a larger one was looking out from behind the tree trunk. It came out and then jumped up towards the branch which was then ripped off, then there was a really big one standing there which roared at us and chased us away. I think the second one distracted us from the baby and then jumped up and grabbed it off the branch as the largest one ripped the branch off which is very impressive and would have taken split second timing and silent communication. Friggin amazing to see!

I dont think we saw either of them together at any one time.

I also have heard from someone, and this could be on the forum, that observed 3 babies under a tree for a few hours at least. Every now and then there would be a woodknock and the young ones would knock back. Eventually the parents came around dawn and picked them up.

Ive also a few years ago seen a tiny little one that moved like nothing ive ever seen. It hid behind a pile of little branches and had a look at me and took off the way it came. I think we whistled to each other but i couldnt actually see if it was whistling or not. Thats sounds nuts i know but hope its a help! (happy)

HI Ben,

Great question! I only recently heard of a sighting in the Blue Mountains regarding Yowie babies. A friend of mine is an avid Yowie chaser (but isn’t a social media/technology user - very off grid) and reported a Yowie juvenile sighting. Apparently the sound it made noticeably higher and sharper in pitch to an adult - more stacato sounding.

Definitely an interesting discussion topic - I’ll be curious to read more responses to this.

I've never heard or seen any Young Yowies in the bush other than an adult Junjadee. It would be great to see what they are like then they are juveniles.
If you've never hiked in thongs, you've never lived. (rad)
