Wollomi/Gardens of stone Nat Park

Hello all. Went for a trip to the Wollomi NAtional Park today found some evidence you's mite be intersted in.First i found a few tree bites all on the same side (right) heading towards the Newnes ruins site.But the best thing i found was a tree with the bark ripped open from the bottom up. I thought it was strange so i stopped to have a look.Bark was everywhere so in my opinion it had to be something big and the peices of bark were pretty large.I did take pictures on my phone so when i move into my new house i will upload them for all to see. One of my best trips yet i thought i would see one today given the conditions in the park top spot anyone else travelled those tracks.

good one Rob,i was in glendavis/rylestone way last few weekends.went up nullo mountain,now thats a mountain worth a good look.i went till the road suddenly became a goat track.just past'bliss'property.had to turn as baby was screamin/needy.i saw a lot of trees with bark strewn around,and i put it down to the many thunder storms rolling through the area over the last month,(i witnessed more than five over three weekends)
not dismissing your find,but i read a book recently,called 'Tracks and scats'dont recall the author,but an absolute gem of info.it showed the feeding sites of a number of species of gliders and small possums.they all make a scrape in the bark of trees,then lick the sap.some trees had single,and more than one feeding scrape.
if you are in that area,go up nullo mountain,its a good drive,good road/dirt,at the top.it is like a different world up there/vegetation/climate differences.

Iam pretty sure no sugar glider did this to the tree mate it was ripped right from bottom to top bark in all directions thats how i found it the bark was on the track and on the hill the pics should give you a good idea when i pass em on in a few weeks very simular to the pics on this site. Should go and have a look not far from your way.

The bark tearing from base up last happened at Hazelbrook about 1 year ago.
If it was not kids..then it was something weird for sure.

For sure it was strange i am not sure but i didnt see it on the way in it looked fresh but unsure. As some of you know there was big bush fires a few months back not far from there that bush land is vertually still unknown event hough it is visited frequently by people it is pretty dense and does link up with every nation park in every direction. I am positive in what i found it is a great place to explore. Sad news though i killed a wallaby poor bugger ran out infront of the truck ruined the trip.
