Great encounter, happened not to far from my own sighting.

Some pondering questions;

1. What ever happened to the abandoned car (or people of)?
2. What ever happened to the sound of the small child crying?
3. Was the child crying a small Yowie or a person from the abandoned car?
4. What did the Police officer see to not come back to work?

A rather haunting encounter thats for sure.

Very traumatic encounter for this woman and the children with her. The baby crying and her described reaction of the police officer on his return to the police station and his leaving the police force soon after certainly get you thinking.
Another great interview.

I remember stopping at Hickey’s falls a few years back on the way to Victoria. Just a quick look on a nice day
with a few other people around seemed ok. I noted that it was a good place to free camp if you were travelling
and needed a break. After listening to that report I don’t think I would even stop now even in daylight.
It’s a lonely stretch of road along there.

That report was great with its other details, such as the abandoned car, being overtaken by the speeding police car,
her parents visiting the falls on the same day. Interesting she noted the absolute silence then the lost child sound.

Do you think Yowies see noisy teens as disrespectful just as adult humans sometimes do ?

It seems to be one of these mind bogglingly large ones, like at Witheren, QLD.

It is just the worst feeling and experience. Of course it has a life long impact.

It was indeed a terrifying report from a highly credible sounding eyewitness. The sound quality on the video was excellent. It would be good to hear more about the policeman and find out if he also had a frightening encounter. Someone will know.

These audio reports do take a lot of work but are very much appreciated. They are an amazing source for information on the Australian bush yowie.

. . . except it may have been about 10 years ago?. Also, the authorities would surely have been able to check on the status of the owner of the seemingly abandoned vehicle through the rego number.

Very scary . . .

The way this woman is talking about he Pilaga and not even wanting to drive the highway at night is making me second guess my decision to go out there last year and drive through the dirt roads at night. In my defence I stayed in the car or very close to it....maybe I shouldn’t have done that.

I posted the video of the footprint I saw from the pilaga if you’re interested.

This is a great eyewitness account! Thanks.

I had an encounter in the Pilliga back in 1999.

It was 2am when we had something milling around behind us as we sat on the edge of a small dam. Being complacent due to a lack of ANYTHING happening after being out there for two days, I dismissed it as just a normal animal.

At 4am when we walked over to the car, I heard what sounded like a voice. I thought it must have been distorted noises coming through the bush from cows, or something rational. Went to get into the car and heard it again. It sounded like someone talking. Stopped. Dismissed it again. Stopped again. Then said to my partner Nat "I'm just going to walk over here to the edge of the track, I can hear something".

Walked to the edge of the sandy track, peering into the darkness on the other side.... and listening.....

Then I got a huge shock when this thing, which ended up being just on the other side of the track, began yelling at me! Not sure what he was saying, but he was not happy about... something? He was telling me off. He was very angry. Couldn't make out what he/it was saying, because it wasn't in English. I best described at as you would imagine a 'Caveman' dialect.

Half shocked and half excited, I ran back to the car and got it.

It was very sandy, and I was worried about getting bogged with this just outside the car, so I drive fast out onto the track and then stopped next to him. Nat then sat in the back seat with the video camera, I got out to use myself as bait - with the door ajar.

Here is this 'whatever it was', walking bipedally next to me mumbling and grumbling away to himself. He started to walk down the bush line to the back of my car, so I put it in neutral and started rolling backwards at his pace, with the door open. He was still murmuring away to himself as he finally walked deeper back into the forest.

This was yet another of these occasions where you have two choices (and I mostly made the wrong one). Either light him up and we may never see him again, or keep the lights off him to prolong the encounter and hopefully it will turn into something epic. In hindsight, I should have lit him up, because he ended up walking away regardless.

I need to reexamine the footage. It's been 21 years since I last watched it.

So yes, there are some odd things out there in the Pilliga.

Was this encounter before the one that punched you Dean? Knowing what you know now, would you do the same thing? Do you take the same risks these days or are you 'wiser' about it?

I'd love to see that video if you can put it up online Dean.

Wasn't part of the story also in not finding footprints in the sand when there should have been? Or am I thinking of a different story?

This was 10 years prior to that event in 2009.

I've learnt my lesson one time too many. I don't take the risks that I used to.

Yes Dion. Not one single print in all that sand. Impossible, surely? We left our prints while searching for his.

Thanks for posting

To me, average Jo Blow, this is one of the most convincing and scary encounters that I have listened to on this forum and I have listened to most of them.

This woman to me, sounds very believable and has described her and the kids encounter in great detail.

Her history in this area and her friends/family who have often warned her of the "Going ons in the Pilliga" to me, add to this amazing encounter and also her thoroughness in reporting to the police and also her returning to conquer her and her family's fears, speaks volumes about her character.

This report, has Great credibility, also her parents visiting the Falls earlier on the same day. Corroborating her encounter.

I am completely blown away by this interview.

Always thought that when I drive back to Adelaide to visit my parents, me living on the Sunny Coast, to just pop in and explore some of these back roads of the Pilliga, well, I may have to think again.

Thanks again, Amazing report.

This was a terrifying experience endured by this lady and her family that needed an explanation and a response from the police, rangers, and government authorities and it appears nothing was forthcoming. No doubt there must have been a police report considering the policeman who investigated the scene knew exactly what he had encountered. I'm sure it would reveal some startling information.

As for the abandoned car and its occupants what happened to them? It appears no report was ever released. Was the family abducted and the little girl left alone started to cry? All hypotheticals I know but these are questions that need answers if not for the safety of others that venture into the area.

I believe it quite possible for the crying to be made by the Yowie as both Yowie and Bigfoot are very good mimickers.

No sounds dead silence and the vomit-inducing fetid smell the usual response when a Yowie or Bigfoot enters the scene.

Hickey Falls is a beautiful but unnerving place to visit a place that should be avoided for obvious reasons. The whole Pilliga State Forest is a no go zone how many people have disappeared while venturing into or traveling along the Newell Hwy at night? The couple towing the campervan is an example journeying along at dusk doing 80 km per hour and something slamming into the side of the van completely overturning it.

There should be signs all along this highway warning of the dangers but I doubt that will ever happen because firstly you have to admit to the existence of the Yowie. So the only warning signs we have is by word of mouth of which there are many. And we really need a replacement name for Yowie because all that does is conjure up images of cute Yowie shape chocolate bars and most people have no idea of the reality. How about some aboriginal names such as the Doolagahl, Jimbra, Jingera, Quinken, or the one I like the Fetid Beast.

This Piliga encounter sounds absolutely terrifying. I am curious too of the theory that maybe there was a family abduction or something- first thought at that point in the story was it reminded me of several David Paulides cases- only in this instance we have no evidence there was even a child to go missing in the first place.

I'm inclined to think that it was not a human infant that the lady and the children heard crying.

Yeah, as others have said, amazing interview and terrifying experience! Very detailed and captivating.

Has anybody driven along the Newell recently? I notice that there's some gas development in the northern section of the Pilliga scrub, some existing wells, and they'll be putting in some more at some stage (Narrabri Gas Project) - would hate to be the drillers on night shift...

Yep. They would need environmental and cultural heritage permission/conditions. I wonder what the people(s) local to the area said?

I would love to know if this occurred during a drought...
Perhaps the usual waterholes in the Pilliga itself had dried up?

I agree with you Bluedog but I'm inclined to think it wasn't a so-called young Yowie either possibly the Yowie mimicking the cry of a young girl. After all Yowie and Bigfoot are known as ''The Tricksters''.
