Fires on Fraser Island.

Unread post by Bluedog »

If yowies are present on Fraser Island as discussed on the forum in the past, how would they survive the current fires on the Island?
Over 50% of the Island has been burned?
There are no caves on Fraser, would they attempt to make a crossing to the mainland?
Or try to take refuge in unburt sections of the island?
The more I learn, the less I know.

What we all have to realise is that these creatures have been around in Australia and the surrounding islands for a very, very, long time. Bushfires, have also been around since the dawn of time. So, I think they will have ways to protect themselves when bushfires occur. Being a flesh and blood creature not supernatural as some suggest, with no merit or evidence to back up their wild imagination, I'm sure they make haste and travel in the opposite direction (being on foot) like all land based animals would do. Maybe find water to immerse themselves in to keep cool and safe while the fire rages around them. No one truly knows unless you witness it for yourself.

Was thinking much the same Bluedog for the past few weeks.

Yowiedan is correct in saying these creatures have been around a very, very long time. Where I slightly disagree is the Flesh and blood, Supernatural line of discussion. Some indigenous communities believe them to be spirits of the Dream-time, some Flesh and Blood, depends on who you talk to, but to dismiss either option would be silly research. I am of the belief that they could be a bit of both, and for many reasons because...... dare I say "the science" has yet to prove they exist. Other than anecdotal evidence of eyewitness accounts there is not much else.

Anyway without derailing this thread into another this vs that thread, most animals and insects would have some kind of natural instinct where by they go into a protection mode against such things like wild fires.....I dont believe the Yowie would be any different.

I have been watching a few hiking Youtube videos lately not related to Yowies but just hiking, some of the guys go into areas where the bush is so heavily burnt from last years fires you wonder how anything could have survived but alas nature always finds a way to come back and regrow and signs of life are everywhere.

The whole "how could a Yowie survive" is certainly an interesting line of discussion thats for sure. (thumb up)

Let's hope they've found or will find the morons who lit the illegal campfire that is claimed started these fires and fine the hell out of them.

I wonder with so much burnt.. has anyone seen wildlife running at the fire front? Are any of the animals making it out? Just wonder if there is a specific spot animals are running maybe yowies could be nearby

Unfortunately the fires on Fraser Island are escalating with Happy Valley residents told to “leave immediately” as of this Monday morning. (7/12/20)

The latest news says more than 90 personnel in 38 vehicles and 17 aircraft, including a large air tanker, are now fighting the Fraser Island blaze. The firefighters also say they will be unable to put the fire out until there is significant rain across Fraser Island.

The estimated Dingo population of 200 will no doubt be running for their lives to find shelter. And any Yowies will probably be well in front of them… (claps hands)

As yowiedan says, these creatures have been around from the dawn of time and would have naturally evolved to find ways of avoiding and surviving those all too frequent Australian bushfires.

Hi guys,

First off, my thoughts go to the many people / land of the area and a big thanks to the fire fighters.

Just my 2cents worth, if there is no where to run and hide, why not dig deep into the earth and create underground hiding places! Yes my imagination is running wild lol.
