Where to camp in relation to possible yowie signs

Unread post by Thommo »

Hi, have discovered a patch of remote bush that we have found a tree snap , we were not 100% positive on reason till after looking more another trip have found about 12 sticks , both straight and “Y” shape pushed into the ground in a straight line , about 2m apart always with thicker end into ground. The question I have is how far would you set up a camp away from these sticks? The nearest track is about 50m away , the sticks are on a very minor game trail, my thoughts were to stick to the track and set up camp beside the car , that way we can make a getaway easily if we have to . Have experienced yowie tree knocks before but in a totally different area so we know what we may encounter, but also want to be safe as it’s a new area , and different animals/ beings.

Wow great find where roughly in the country are you?
Maybe trying what Dean and the crew did would be worth replicating?
Go camping there with some people and see what pops up, think of your personal safety also ie dont go alone.
Do you have a Thermal or know someone with one?

Ballarat area in Victoria. No hi tech stuff, just want to see if there are any around.. decided I’m not interested in recording them, been listening to Sarah Bignells latest podcast, and at first I thought it was out there , but have come around to the idea of just relaxing, be no threat to them and hope a connection is made.

Have you got a few mates to go with you?
Not all of them are fluffy and love and light so take that into consideration at least.
Many folk with the best of intentions have vanished without trace bushwalkers, nature lovers et al.
Maybe its somethings front living room and they wont be to amused sort of thing but who knows, im going to check out a few places on my own so cant blame you, sticks mean territory marking so just know you are entering into somethings territory, they may be understanding, they may not be.
Keep us posted what you discover.

Only have one mate who would come with me… very aware that we are dealing with the unknown in many ways. I’m definitely not the “ hippiie peace” type person who believes that I won’t get an angry reaction. Hence why I’m asking. We have both seen first hand how a mob of peaceful grazing kangaroos instantly reacted to tree knocks, they were so scared they were tripping over each other .

How did you go?
I past through your neck of the woods the other day on the way to the Ottways and back, would have loved to stay longer down there but had to put the car in for a service back home Friday.
Bloody hell theres heaps of massive windfarms down there now, some good wooded rolling hills also, looks like some good habitat for them.

Been way to busy will now be a mid February at least before I get back out. But my friend has found a few more areas with sticks in the ground and crosses too.
