Hi all. As per my heading....why no sightings in SA? Could this be due to limited/lack of natural water source and suitable habitat.

SA has a few but your guess would be as good as mine as to why limited sighting occur.
SA, along with WA, NT and Tasmania all lack the amount of sightings the eastern states get, for what reason I do not know. Does not mean they are not there!
Lack of natural water source and suitable habitat is as good as theory as any? The eastern states do have the Great Dividing Range which would help also. A higher population of people on the eastern side to report their sightings or encounters may also be a factor?

Yeah too true....who knows. Although WA do have some pretty cool and graphic sightings as well. Maybe we'll start to get more sightings after the migration of eastern states folk (and yowies) over the last couple of years due to covid.....we'll see

Hi all, long time no post but anything SA gets my attention as I grew up there.
My first posts to the forum describe my encounters with something which unfortunately I did not actually see, cannot say exactly what but I am 99 percent certain it wasn´t a human. But water was indeed the common denominator, mine happened on the river Murray which is pretty much the biggest source of inland freshwater you find in SA however because of that it is also fairly heavily populated in lots of areas. It wouldn´t be hard to think any population may have been displaced by us encroaching their habitat.
SA is also vast, even in these rural settings where people live there are likely corners of properties never really had a foot stepped in them and much of it is pastoral land. I do believe if something wanted to stay hidden they very well could.
There may never of been a large population to start with, most accounts are historical and found on trove.
I also think, cannot be sure as I have never really spoken to anyone directly about it, but the first nations people along the Murray when referencing the Bunyip may actually be talking of a Yowie living in caves on the bank or cliffs of the river.
I know less about the northern areas like Flinders Rangers or Coopers Creek, but again would think the areas are so big and even less people get up there. Food I doubt is an issue, more so now we have introduced bunnies and are growing produce but fresh water to me seems to be the biggest issue.
This is all speculation on my part so feel free to take it with a pinch of salt.

They are here - in SA - as that’s where I first encountered them. Well, SA/Vic border area near Mildura back around 2008/09.
There are reports of them in SA on the main site. I would also say that having fewer people and a very large land area would contribute to less sightings overall.

Apparently they have been sightings up in Mount Crawford, sixth creek in 2015 and 2020. Mount Crawford would be an excellent spot for them not far from Mount Crawford is two large reservoirs in the para wirra area and barossa area. There is also the little Para River and reservoir too.
I actually believe that they can possibly move through residential areas in the Adelaide plain areas too unseen in the very early hours of the morning. Because there are reserves and gullies they could navigate through Cobbler Creek reserve is a possible place that they might visit also.
I live very close to Cobbler creek reserve. It's big and it kind of connects in the direction of areas a Yowie could be living more regularly. My brother had a scary encounter with someone or something in the early hours of the morning near a gully reserve area in a populated area. He said the guy was big, grunting at him, possibly was killing a cat and chased after my brother. My brother and I will never forget this was shaking and was actually sick when he got home.
Was it a yowie I don't know would be remarkable given the populated area. But with the gullies and little reserves all connecting back into less populated areas which would be yowie habitat who knows.
