Having had my sights set on getting into the Acacia Hills area for a foray but being hampered by our Topend wet season, which makes it virtually impossible to access a lot of area's even in 4WD vehicles. The wet finished and i arrived at a small turn off track which cuts it's way into the hills, i noticed an Indigeneous man standing outside his house, i stopped said g'day we started chatting, he asked me what i was doing here; i said looking for " unusual animals", he then warned me not to go into those hills alone as there was a bad creature in there he called it a P*^#@! ( which i cannot pronounce), he said many things that made all the flags go up..red eyes, night time hunter, screaming noises etc. he then told that people around here ( his community) do not cook after dark as it attracts it to the houses, the chap seemed quite up front, i have shared this story with Tony healy who is up here at the moment and hope to get in there with our small topend team soon.
cheers all

Wow Topender that is interesting. I would say Indigenous elders would be great to talk to about yowies.
Its been passed down through generations the story of the hairy man. I went to school with some koori kids, they all used to tell me the stories, they had been told by their parents etc....
Wow, hope some useful information comes out of that!

Re: acacia hills update
Hopefully we'll soon go for an overnight camp at the location and see what happens.
We Northern Territorians are pretty new at this type of thing so if anyone has any tips on how to conduct a successful Yowie expedition we'd be glad to hear from you.
Any ideas that can improve our chances would be much appreciated.
Cheers.
