Peanut butter traps. Sleepy ones.

Unread post by deadpool »

I was thinking - as you know, our hairy friends love the peanut butter smeared on trees. Now, heres where the ethical point comes in. Say if one was to crush up a bunch of valium into the peanut butter. I've read reports that baboons tolerate it much the same as humans, so why not the Yowie?

You have your valium'd up peanut butter smeared on a tree - it licks it off, give it half an hour and boom, sleepy time for it (in theory).

Now, my question to everyone is this: is it right or wrong? What would the implications be? How would it tolerate it? How would you feel about it?

I'm on the fence on this one, even though I thought of it.. its either a good chance to "catch" one or a damn good waste of valium. Plus the fact that it might kill it. Which I wouldn't want to do.

So guys, whats your spin on this? Bad? Good? Confused?

Hey Alex

Welcome back to the forums

I am not sure how this would work wouldn’t you be able to smell or taste the valium?

I’m no Yowie myself but I would think that it would have some kind of an idea after the first lick to notice something wasn’t quite right. *I can see the confused look on the unsuspecting Yowies face now*

What are the implications is it right or wrong? Probably wrong in my book

How are you going to catch it when it does decide to fall to the ground? How would you know where it fell? My guess is a good as yours?

You could always try, but if you come back the next day and wonder why all the possums are lying motionless on the ground at least you will have an idea on what caused it lol

I would say very wrong. What if it became sluggish and disorientated and fell off a cliff? Imagine how you would feel if you were slipped some valium without knowing it and drove a car.

Yes i did think of this idea once before but came to the conclusion its ethically, and morally wrong on all levels. Hopefully everyone will read this post and make up their own mind its wrong too.

I say save the yowie and send all your spare crushed Valium to me, I need it after a school fete today

But c**p aside, I have to agree with the other folks, it wouldn't be worth the risk to the creature. I'm happy to live with blurry photo shots and a pack of new underwear :D

Ask yourself, "is this ethically right?". If you listen close enough, you will hear the answer loud & clear.

...to me...that would be like yourself being abducted by Aliens and being anally probed... you probably wouldn't like it... I doubt the Yowie would like it either  :) ... Stickyfingers.

i would say wrong unless was done with animals interest at heart and all measures are taken to ensure its safety, Which i think could never be done as by the time the drugs kick in it could be 10 miles from you so in this case i say no, now if you had a fast acting tranc well then that might be different but once again would have to be guys like us how are happy just knowing in ourselves we have 100%proof and its left alone. But even this could be dangerous as no one on the face of the earth knows how their bodies react to drugs.

so once again no no no no no no no wins

It would be irresponsible.

- Irresponsible towards the welfare of habitat in the area, including the yowie. It could only be responsible if the correct dosage to safely make a yowie sleepy were known, other habitat could be guaranteed not to injest it, and the yowie could be immediately contained for it's safety.

A big thumbs down. But, deadpool, a great question to consider - thumbs way up! :D

Haha. I love that. Everyone is all "its basically wrong" but also "awesome question!" - thats why I love this place.

And yes, i've thought about it more - and its kinda stupid now I think about it. Where would it go? How would I find it? But its still an idea nonetheless.
