Expeditions...
Expeditions...
Hey guys!
i contacted Dean not long ago about maybe accompanying him and the rest of the team on an expedition sometime...(in the Rochedale area)
but he got back to me once and that was it...
I was just wondering if this is even possible..(going on an expedition)...I mean, I've only JUST turned 16 but I was asking for future reference...
and maybe even joining the team permanently?
Not now..but I just want to know if its a possibility...for future reference...
THANKS!

hey the_great_one,
Good to see your enthusiastic
I know how much you want to get into the thick of things, Ive been even over enthusiastic at times myself
.
Their are pleanys of active yowie areas in S.E. qld.
Why not just go out for yourself and document what you find ? You never know, one of these days you might be lucky enough to get invited on a expedition, If not you have still contributed to the yowie reaserch.
Its a win - win
Just think how much time and effort dean and co. have put into this field. You cant blame them for not just taking "anybody" out with them.
cheers

I was lucky enough to be taken out along to a hunt once, its something that I won't forget and something that I'm grateful for being involved in.
That said, be sure you know what your getting yourself into. Their are people out there who don't like researchers snooping around to much. I was basically pushed underground and forced to keep a low profile after some very strange things happened to me when I was more involved with AYR.
As for the Daisy hill area, I do a lot of mountain biking in there and I haven't seen anything to support that any large hominid would be living there, most likely because its so popular with mountain bikers and horse riders. However as I said in my other post, there has been some sightings of a large cat in the area.
If you want to research the daisy hill area my suggestion would be try all the single tracks and the 'roads less traveled' at the rear of the park.
Regards
Tom.
P.S: Get a bike, faster to travel, easier to get around, and you can be very quiet.

You don't need anyone to hold your hand. If you read Dean's story, his first encounter was very personal. No-one friendly was there with him.
However, I would advise Yowie or no Yowie, there are plenty of other things to consider when stepping into the bush. It's a very rewarding but unforgiving.
Play it safe and don't stuff it up for the rest of the researchers in the field. No-body wants the SES to extract a lost, dehydrated Bushwalker only to be told, 'I was looking for a Yowie officer.' It's that of type of media that gives this field a bad name.
Good luck to 'the great one' don't become 'the foolish one'

Nothing do defend yourself with? Against a human, you'd have a chance. Yowie? How far are you away from Cleveland The_Great_one42?
I think Bigfoot is blurry, that's the problem. It's not the photographer's fault. Bigfoot is blurry. And that's extra scary to me, because there's a large, out-of-focus monster roaming the countryside. Run. He's fuzzy. Get outta here.

G'day fellas,
Another place you could have a look at ( if it's still there ) is an old dis-used sand quarry off Avalon Rd @ Capalaba. About 10 - 12 yrs ago there was a big hoo ha about some decapitated 'roos & koalas - locals blamed devil worshipers, but who knows. BUT - be very careful - some twerp damn near shot my fool head off when I was wandering around through there on foot. And, just in case you're wondering - YES, I did explain that his actions made me feel unloved....
Cheers

its a shame you dont live near sydney. I would be very keen for some low scale searches. By low scale i mean no more then two days at a time over the w.e and i like you dont REALLY know what im doing.Though i have tracked animals and hunted in the past i have never really been out looking to find a yowie. From the stories i heard from some old hunting types i didnt really want to. But they of course were exagerating to keep me on edge. Like alot of aussies i know they love to scare the c**p out of each other!
Noone believed in gorillas you know, until someone found one...

Its a pity we can not get this in australia as i would feel a lot safer then
Also it would prevent the death of a creature as no lethal force would need to be used if something where to get aggresive.

I for one would not like to be the first one to pepper spray a Yowie. Did you see what happened to the guy that poked one in the eye?
It's hardly a recomendation when the product claims to reduce the injuries sustained by bears.
By how much... Will it say, reduce an all out mauling to a shaving rash?
That type of advertising where something is 'reduced' is usually found on dandruff shampoo and wrinkle cream... things you can't really die of.
You're going to have to be pretty intimate with a bear if you are close enough to spray it in the face.
Great link... Dubious product... Had me in stitches... I mean someone actually has to go out and test it... "ALASKA GU***D works for three out of four bears"
It would be a great conversation starter in a bar...
'What do you do for a living?'
'Well... I spray bears in the face with an annoying irritant'
'That must be dangerous for you'
'Not if you have the nozzle pointing away from your eyes'
Cheers Buck

Hrm, if I was that guy who got his fingers bitten off (even though it looks too clean for a bite), i'd punch the bugger in the throat. I'm that close, might as well try & do some damage.
