There is plenty of evidence mad keen you just have to look at the many and varied sightings reports people have made through the centuries. Not just here but overseas as well. From the aboriginals to the native Americans all have their story’s of a hairy man, they were passed down to the early settlers and they too began to have encounters, right up to this very day people are still having them. I don’t think that is pure coincidence I like to think of it as evidence. Just my opinion.

I'm intrigued by the reports of yowie behavior towards human children as well, as a bit of a side issue in this thread.

It makes sense from a threat POV. Perhaps the semblance between a yowie toddler and a human toddler aren't all that different at first appearances? That could be one explanation.

Also, perhaps human children aren't as likely to freak out in the event of an encounter of sorts?

Cheers,

Dean Harrison wrote:It was a completely different feel. I often ponder over it.

Ormeau - First thought all the noise was kids in the bush.

After the crashing stopped I became aware that 'someone' was stalking me. Step by step with deliberate action. Parting branches, stopping after each crack under foot to clear the air, sliding its body through leaves of plants and stopping. It was a thinker.

When it came to the edge of the clearing, I was struck with the most unimaginable ungodly sensation. It was such an intense feeling of venerability that totally paralyzed my entire body. There was no odor, just a horrid feeling.

Then the raw aggression of the chase, well, that was overwhelming. I say overwhelming because it felt more than just being chased. You could 'feel' it..... and it felt bad. The grunting on each massive step as it was running, over powered the constant screaming and roaring.

The one that dropped me - I smelt it. It was a very strong odor of Sulphur, which I radioed back to camp. I felt no fear, no feelings of being watched. I sat down and suddenly there was walking above me from right to left. More like marching actually. Marching without a care in the World and obviously not scared of being known. I radioed that to camp as I stood up. Then without hesitation, it suddenly turned and ran towards me.

The only 'feeling' I had at the time was panic. It was all happening so fast that I barely had time to digest it. Before I knew, it leapt over the track and down the bottom half of the hill and whack. It was fast. Very fast. To navigate the terrain on that angle in pitch darkness, its eye sight must have been terrific.

I guess the worst part was laying on my back rolling from side to side kicking in the air. I knew where it went, because when Mikka and Joe arrived, I pointed in the direction. I didn't know what its plans were or what was going to happen next. Just pure panic on my behalf.

That was the first time I had even seen dull white glowing eyes. They looked exactly like the front cover of Out of the Shadows.

But as far as that incident is concerned, it was a far different feeling than Ormeau. It all happened pretty quick and I think my emotion/panic probably would have over ridden any other feelings anyway.

This one didn't read the Yowie code of conduct rule book. Its actions were unexpected and totally unusual to anything I have ever known.

Again, I don't know if the smell was from it being there prior to myself, whether or not I could smell it from where it was (I doubt) or there was another one down there at the time. All hypothesis.

Certainly an experience.

Can you believe - nearly a year on = this thread is still bugging me?!

Deano, I reread the PM I sent you back then with my theories on why the yowie could have been female, and its been going round and round in my head. I finally figured it out what was getting to me. It was putting on a show of "marching" but not stalking you or intimidating you, just trying to make enough noise for you to think it was big and scary. So what happened that made it step things up. You radioed back to base. If a yowie were crouched on the ground, then started making noise and standing to its full height, what would you reckon was coming next? "And whack". It could have killed you then and there. But it didn't. It knocked you back down, a skirmish, incapacitating you. A bit of a tousle then back into the bush to keep watching. Of course, I'm no expert, but to me that sounds like a bluff, a shoulder charge and stand-off - pretty bloody protective of something!

Which then raises questions from other reports of female yowies in Springbrook spotted with "pendulous breasts". Do you recall any breasts, Dean? And would/could a female be that tall? Looking more closely at "eyeshine" and its physiological causes... interesting that apes don't have it and supposedly split from the family that do 63-50 million years ago... (I love science, I really do, but there's just so much that can't be put into neat little categories, guys, I'm really sorry!)

Jim - we think (most) baby animals to hold a certain charm, appeal and almost fascination. If I remember correctly, there are stories of people having encounters as children, but more as an observation, rather than a threat. I guess it could be equated to coming across a baby animal in the forest, and not wanting to disturb it whilst watching it do it's thing... and so the watcher becomes the watched... :p

... And on a bit of a sidenote, how did those discs go, in the end?
