Finally, I actually have something to add instead of my usual sass.
My Wiseman's Ferry contact very kindly taped his Dad talking about his Yowie encounter and some others in the region.
Interestingly enough my 'outing' as a Yowie believer at a previous party has come full circle. Last night my mate brought the tape of his dad to a dinner party at my house, it was indeed the same circle of friends that kindly heckled me earlier in the year.
It was played to a skeptical audience, which I thought was a brave move... but it's good to have skeptics because they keep you honest.
While some members were not quite as doubtful at the end of the tape which is 7.5 minutes long... no-one actually said that the author of the tape was lying or making things up.
It became a debate again on how can such a creature exist? How come no-one's found a dead one? The whole experience was positive but the night wasn't spent entirely talking about the 'Hairy Grail.' The interest only holds for those who are interested... but it was one of more memorable discussions I've had the pleasure of entertaining.
Now for the tape.
My friend hales from the Wisemans' Ferry area and his family still live there so I've left names out. It was recorded earlier this month at a family barbecue, so the background noise is at times a little intrusive but atmospheric.
It starts off with the father saying that he has often heard 'thundering' and 'Noises' in the bush that are 'too big for a kangaroo, or too small to be a rabbit' (I don't understand the rabbit quote but it means something)
He says that many people aren't even aware of the existence of Yowies 'because they're that timid and they get around in the nighttime'... but they are definitely out there in the scrub and personally knows of other encounters.
In 1998/99 he took his sons (10 & 12) fishing in an area known as Slippery Rock. They stayed till after dark. He had already caught a good sized fish and was settling in for the evening but the kids got bored. They began to muck about playing in the bush behind them. It was warm and the weather was clear and it had only been dark an hour.
Suddenly there was a 'thundering' & 'grumbling' from the cliffs behind them and a huge boulder was hurled into the scrub. It was dark but he could make out the outline of a 'huge hairy bushy thing, like a big human' He called to his terrified kids to get out of the bush because there was a yowie up there.
The next encounter was at Lithgow dam... when he dropped one of his sons and his mates off for a two day camp. During the night one of his son's mates... X (12 at the time) went to answer the call of nature. He was squatting down between some rocks when a 'huge hairy man' leapt over him and 'bounded off down the slope.'
We 'X' returned to the tent he told them of his encounter and was as 'white as a sheet.' The other boys laughed it off, except for my mates brother. They told my mates Dad when they were picked up and his son corroborated the fact that X was 'as white as a sheet'
He believed the boys story and his son's testimonial as to his condition when he re-entered the tent.
He also mentions reading an article in 2001, where one was 'sighted on the inland south coast, in the highlands there' Apparently a photo was taken and sent to america to be analyzed, 'the photo was from one ridge to another so it was a fair way off but the photo was worked out to be true, so they are about'
(Does anyone know about this article?)
He goes on to say that they are definitely out there... 'They stay under cover during the day and outta sight at night basically...'
The interview ends with a dog barking madly...
I've played it over about five times... each time I play it I pick up something new... that's about it in a nutshell.
An outing to the area is inevitable... but we've yet to set a date. The skeptics want in on the trip as well... which is odd.
A big thanks to my mate who taped this for me as his dad doesn't normally talk about and indeed it was only recently revealed that he had seen one at all.
Cheers Buck
