Report - Encounter of "Unknown Creature" - 1950

Unread post by deadpool »

Time: Between June & August in the late 1950s. Mid to late afternoon.
Location: Northern New South Wales
Persons Involved: Two

Incident:
[name redacted] was rally driving with his navigator through a rally track in the late 1950s during mid to late afternoon. They had to stop because an unknown creatue stepped out from the right hand side of the track. It approached the car & began to menace it, placing its hands on the bonnet and bouncing the car up & down. To get unknown creature to leave, [name redacted] beeped the horn several times before the creature turned and walked briskly back the way it came.

Description of creature:
About 6ft tall, "big hairy ape-like man" covered in brown hair. Horrible smell eminated from the creature while it was there.

----------------

The witness was (and still is a very skeptical person) - he would never make up anything like this due to, well - his lack of imagination.

If anyone can help me out with known rally tracks back in the 50s in N-NSW, it might help narrow down the location exactly.
..people don't tend to notice him standing there in the last frames..

Can't help you out with the rally tracks in NSW, Alex, but what a wonderful report! Sounds to me like the Yowie was more than a little p*ssed off! (claps hands) (taz)

Anybody ever heard of similar BF behavior in North America?

Hey Deadpool

The littlle that I have to add might amount to nothing , but if I remember rightly the Southern Cross Rally used to be held in the hills and farm lands out behind Coffs Harbour , not sure though as it was so long in the past .

try this and check out the 9th post from Dave Ferris , just a little interesting .

What i remember most about about Southern Cross Rallies, driving into the night, to find a broken car, and they keep'd telling there was frigg'n
yowies out there, "so i sat in the car"
That's awesome Al, thanks a lot. That'd be the rally it happened at. I might sign up to that forum and ask about the incident & see if anyone replies.

edit: I signed up & found this
[...] who didn't want to sleep at Black Springs because a Yowie was spotted less than 2kms from the camp site years ago... Anyway....
I dunno what the thread was about exactly, I just searched the forum itself.. but it seems more than one person has had encounters during rallying around that area.

Wow, Al, awesome!--Dave Ferris' post with the casual aside, "There's friggin' Yowies out there!" Apparently in Australia, there is much more general acceptance of the Yowie as part of the scenery than of Bigfoot here in the USA. I can only imagine the ridicule a driver would have gotten at the time of a race car competition here in the United States if he advised someone to stay in the car because "there's freaking Bigfoots out there!" He'd be laughed out of the race. (taz)

Just for you Ella
Significantly, the majority of bigfoot reports from the Lake Champlain area come from the Western side of Lake Champlain; further, many of the reports involve plainly aggressive behavior (e.g., chasing cars, throwing objects, following/pursuing people, approaching cars)
See, on your side of the pond they do it too! (scared)

Thank you, Alex! Maybe they are disturbed about destructive elements to their formerly pristine environment and are just making their sentiments known. Can't say I wouldn't do the same thing if I were in their "shoes". In fact, I'd probably just tear the hoods (AKA "bonnets" to you) off of their cars! (no no)

Just got a reply from the forum:
Yeah Alex, they are still there, although these days they throw rocks rather than jumping on cars!

Last reported sighting around September 2009 in the Byrrill Creek area... and sadly, it seems they have bred!

Be afraid... be very afraid!

Cue Twilight Zone music...
Trés interesting, no?

Again, Alex, real interesting. Rock throwing behavior by BF in the USA is reported as a common occurrence. So the Yowies near the race car competition have taken it up, no surprise.

Seem to have bred? I hope so, unless they're just trying to fool you. I've never understood the lure of race car competitions, although America is full of them, as you know. Oh, if I were young and had money, I'd go right over there and try to find me some Yowies hanging around the races! (taz) (claps hands)

There is a like report in the AYR nsw reports/ sightings section 3 ( Iam not sure how to get that from there to here yet ) titled COLO RIVER 1999

A different era but similar circumstances , perhaps Ella is correct in saying that these creatures don't like the disturbance in their home environment and employ rock throwing as a tool to drive us away , after all they do live a primitive existance .

Al, if you're a dinosaur, what does that make me? A precambrian invertebrate? A trilobite? (no no) (claps hands) (poke tongues)

Bingo!
Last sighting I heard of was in the late 70's / early 80's just outside of a little place called Bellbrook - Macleay Valley. And no, I'm not kidding.

There's even an annual Yowie festival in the area, you might get more luck finding info there.
For a rallying forum - as much as people have taken the piss, some people seem to be a bit serious about it. I think. (no brains)

Chewy, thank you for that 1999 report, it's way cool! At first I got a little confused, as I thought your Colo River was an abbreviation for the Colorado River here in Texas, but I figured that one out in a hurry. (taz)

It also took me a little while to figure out the terms "rally" and "rallying", meaning race car competitions. This thread has been the first time I ever heard that word applied to car racing. I learn something new about the English language outside of the USA almost every day here--good thing I'm good at looking stuff up on Google! (claps hands) (ninja)

Heard about another scary night out in the bush at a car rally.
From memory, it was 10 or so years ago:
He was doing a "road closure" out near Jenolan NSW.

The is where a person 'mans' a closed off section of public road to ensure the public don't stray into the forest where a car rally is being run. You watch all the competitors go through and then an official car follows after and picks up the people who are 'manning' the road closures and other check points.

Anyhow this person was waiting in the bush for a long time after the last competitive car and had a weird feeling of being watched so decided to walk toward the officials at the start of the section to meet them (or the oncoming official car).

As he started walking there was something in the bush off to one side that was following a bit behind him.
(this last sentence got my full attention).
He thought it might be a wild pig or dog and decided to start jogging. The animal in the bush was still there even when running. Just before arriving at the start control he realised that he had dropped his phone whilst running but didn't dare go back for it. He related what happened to my brother, who said the bloke was pretty fair-dinkum.

Uh, I just checked again on Google after reading the above post by Openmind of a car "rally" taking place in a forest. I had thought "car rally" meant "car race". Now it seems to indicate "car show" or "car exhibition". The joke's on me! (stupid) I just couldn't imagine how anyone could race cars in a forest. Maybe in Australia, but it sure wouldn't work over here! (lol) (jest) (scared)
