Found these tracks whilst walking through the bush just out of yarra state forest around the warbuton east are along the Yarra river.
There were a number of prints in the area along with wombat remains.
As you can see in the photo the print was just a bit bigger than a 40s cigarette packet, clearly bigger than a normal cat.

if i was a big cat thats where id be, im amazed how many deer there are up there, an absolute plague. for me the aquaduct walking trail would be a great place to keep an eye on, farmland on one side and endless forest on the other. this is one place i intend to set up a cam.

Re: Panther prints found in Warbuton
without starting a new thread, basicly i found this print where i walk my dogs near my home in a mountain not too far from the warby ranges.
now im not saying what it is or is not, ill let everyone else give their opinions, but i found them odd compared to my dogs prints.
the pads are spread quite far apart unlike a dogs, there was no visible claw marks.
but i must also say that the indentation was in half mountain clay mixed with organic debris making it unclear and the area of the hind pad (which i know would help identify the animal) had a stone where it looks like the animal slipped forward on it a bit.
the print measured about 80mm in diameter.
anyway, always keeping my eyes peeled and my trail cam switched on 24/7...cheers

Re: Panther prints found in Warbuton
this may help....unfortunately i only had my camera on my phone, so not the clearest photos.
they are not huge prints but they are a good third bigger than my labradors prints.

Yes, some very interesting photos, you said that they were about a third bigger than your labrador paws.... thats quite big, but maybe not quite a large panther... maybe a possible sign of breeding?

Re: Panther prints found in Warbuton
thats right pp , it didnt stand out as a large print, just different.
i just got back from a ride a where i came across this scat on the path, completely full of greyish hair of either rabbit or possum, again not huge about the length of my finger but it has been there for sometime and beetles were devouring it, so maybe there had been more originally?

Re: Panther prints found in Warbuton
Yes, it could very well have been a lot larger, i was immediately thinking that it was just any random animals dung
but then i remembered you said that it had hair in it ( a lot of hair) and i thought, apart from a snake or fox theres nothing else that eats meat... you could well be onto something here id definately get that camera set up and see if you can find anything
