More recording's

Unread post by Rusty2 »

Hello everyone,
Just thought I'd share with you , my latest recording's from the last 2 week's . I now have 14 , all from the same area . Last time I went out there , I accidently left the recorder on record , instead of noise activated . On saturday arvo I had to trawl through 12 hours of noises but found some interesting stuff .
The most interesting I think is a recording of rock tapping . There are six distinct tapp's but it's like a latin rythm . 12345--6
Another is of a branch being "forced" to break . There's 2 snap's and one break , one of the snap's is masked by a blowfly . It sound's like a decent size branch , maybe the animal is after a new whacking stick , lol.
The last is of a large animal moving past my gear . It sound's like it's walking and it sound's big .
I leave fruit for "it" assuming it is what I think it is . It's right near my gear twice during the same day . The first time it's there within 1.5 minutes of me leaving the area , it scramble's through to get the fruit and in the arvo it casually walk's past , either to pick up the last of the fruit or to see if there's anymore . I don't know what else it could be .

Nice recording! On your map it look's like the some sort of area I'm in . With the deep valleys.

Thank's Yowie Mrx ,
Yeah ! Deep valley's covered in vines with a creek running through . Honestly , I'm only there briefly to get the files , so I'm not there to see what it is . I did see a brief glimpse of something large and black step behind a tree once . All I can say is I "think" I'm on the right track . With all the files put together + the pootprint , I can't see what else it could be .
The other interesting thing is that in most of the recording's there is bird's in the background . I've often heard of area's where there is not a sound at all . You know , bit creepy . This thing is in harmony with it's surrounding's . If it is a yowie , I bet it'a a female .

Anyway Cheer's Rusty2................... :D

Those are all very interesting, Rusty!
I am really hoping you get some kind of vocalisation one day.
When I listened to the scrambling one, I initially thought it sounded like the sound you hear when something heavy is thrown, and bounces a couple of times before coming to rest. Were there any large rocks or logs or anything like that out of place that you noticed? Do you regularly take photos of the area you record in? I would like to ask if you could take a few snaps each time from the same angles to compare over time. Just a thought.

Thanks for posting these,
kind regards,
Shazz

Thank's Chewy , Shazzior , Fisho ,
Yes Shazzoir , I'm dieing to get some kind of vocalisation . There are some river rock's there but nothing seem's to be out of place . I do take photo's Shazzoir but only the ground is trampled . There was a left over mango seed on the ground which look's like it was sucked clean and left for the rat's , no pick's of that , sorry .
Hey fisho , I use a sony ic recorder . $150 from electronic's store . Yep , the fruit goes missing each time . I place it directly in front of the trail cam but never anything on video . I did get something recently which I believe is a partial of an ear entering the frame but it's pretty vague , see the previous post "vague footage " . If it was a possum , wombat , roo or bandicoot , I think I'd get it on video like I have before in another area . See below .

If the vid doesn't work just right click and save .

Hey Rusty2

On your next attempt with the fruit as an attractant why don't you try and cover it with some sort of heavy in weight mesh type cover so as the prefered subject can still see and smell what it is that has attracted them to the spot but at the same time not allowing a lowly Possuum or any other Marsupial for that matter to just run off with the goodies .

Good Luck Dood keep up the endeavours !!!!!!

WOULD YOU LIKE FRY'S WITH THAT ?????? ??????

Hey people ,
Easy peasy Topender . Turn it on . Adjust date etc by + - and play buttons , I dont bother . Press and hold menu button . then use + button to advance through setting's . 1st SHQ (super high quality) 2nd Sensitivity (H), I have mine on high . 3rd VOR on , if it's off , press play and the on or off setting will flash . Press plus or minus button to change setting and press play again to finnish . Done . It wil resume to normal function itself . PRESS RECORD . That's it

Good luck Rusty2...........

HA HA HA I have exactley the same recorder..... what are the odds.... Sony should sponsor us at this rate!

Nice work Rusty2. Interesting area.

Hey Topender ,
Yes , it will record immediately but wil go into standby mode when you leave . It's very sensitive and even handling it wil set it off . Just make sure the "VOR" is flashing on the screen "after" you press record . Put it in a safe place and walk off .
Hope this helps . :D

Perhaps you should take the stickers off your fruits, and wash them to get rid of the fertilizers. Is your camera producing infrared beams and noises when it starts? Then it may not be stealthy enough for the yowie not to discover it.

Thank's Mrx , it was a lucky find . It's very detailed , I'm just wrapped .
Hey Squatchbait , I'm sure the camera is at least making a lot of noise . This creature isn't dumb . It just will not , under any circumstances go in front of the camera . I've started putting the fruit out of camera range , again , so it can at least get a feed without any string's attatched . I'm just going to have to go out there one night and wait for it . See what happens .

Really fascinating files! First thing I noticed though was the amount of bird life... they're obviously not too scared by whatever is into your fruit!

Great job though, keep it up!

Hey Rusty
it works......( shut up Dion i can hear your thoughts all the way up here  ), thanks Rusty , i am gunna recommend you for an award during Seniors Week.

So.. i doubt whether it would cope too well out in the field for 2 weeks in the wet season, i wonder whether you can make a little recorder raincoat for the Sony out of a surgical glove or something, i'll try abit of trial and error ...cant let 3 months of rain get in the way

Hey Topender ,
I leave mine out in the wet all the time . Just get a piece of 75mm pvc pipe and tie it to a tree . Easy . Just make sure it sits on something inside to elevate it off the floor , like a 20 cent piece . :D
