Spinifex Hopping Mouse or something extinct?

Unread post by horserider »

Hello

Does anyone know much about the different rhodent species?

Because around 10 - 15 yrs ago i was walking along a trail about to cross a bridge over a river & to the side of the track i saw what looked like the a Spinifex Hopping Mouse.. except the snout was longer & narrower & the end of the snout looked flat like a pigs snout with nostrils on the flat of the snout as does a pigs.

It looked unwell as it didnt take for cover & almost looked like it was too weak to stand where it was.

Does anyone know what this was that i may have seen? I never forgot how it looked because i always wondered what it was.. i did go back with a box with the intention to have it rescued but by the time i returned it was gone

The long piggy looking snout is what bewildered me.

It looked chubby with big dark round eyes, it was a cute looking thing minus the fact it was sick :(

It looks like the one in the pick except the snout wasnt humped, it was dipped in & narrow & piggy at the end

It's unforunate a lot of our little native species r on the edge of extinction or already there especially in th interior. Not sure approx location where u r Horserider but from description (pease forgive spelling I have no field guide) ur furry little friend may be a Phanagail, a small carnivorous marsupial, that does have a small 'piggy' snout n r very rarely sighted, due 2 size but r numerous enough where good habitat exists.
