weird sounds west of brisbane

Unread post by warrior64 »

Hi guys .

While out camping near rathdownie in qld,i had to get up for a pee around 2am,it was cold and very quiet with a clear sky .

I heard a sound that came from my left up in the side of the valley we were in camping. The sound was a "wooooop" with the last part going up in tone.

I stood and listened and again heard the woop followed by a second one . It sounded exactly the same so i presumed it was some other camper out having a pee as well and liked the sound of thier echo .

I made a loud woop myself and about 10 seconds later i got another one in return but this time closer from my left which i would say around 200 to 500 meters . Now the camping area was to my right and the valley high ground was on my left ,so it couldent be another camper ? I started to think "what the F is this" and again made a loud long wooooop. I was amazed to hear a short woop followed by a long one ! I was startting to get cold and thinking ,i hope whatever this is is not coming down the valley towards me lol ,I was lost for words on what this noise was but decided to go back in to the camper and get some sleep.

Now im ex ADF and have experienced lots of different terrain, areas where sound carries etc and I swear this sound came from up high on the left of the camp ground which is high in the valley . In the morning I scanned the area from where we were and its thick bush as far as I could see. God knows what animal made this noise but it communicated and im sure was not a man .

Sounds like you interacted albeit unwittingly, with one of our hairy folk, if the response was clearly in answer. I reckon you just did roll call :) Some birds will respond to human calls with surprisingly loud calls of their own, but you never know, unless you figure the volume and power of the call/s is mighty impressive on both counts, and too powerful for a set of bird lungs or amplifying throat pouches.

Bigfoot Tony on youtube does a breakdown on a private utah sasquatch video(monument wallow maybe?) which has some excellent whoops apparently from a sasquatch which can be seen in the video.

And of course Rustys site has the best selection of vocalisations i know of out there. (taz)
