My latest offering
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znYKM-5 ... e=youtu.be
This video contains unusual audio from the forest . Apologies in advance for the brief video of my backside .
This video may have sound issues when played with some media players . Loud sounds may be reduced as a "leveling" function by the media player thereby reducing the original quality of the recording . Headphones are recommended but use caution as some audio is loud .
Another video coming in a month or so , thanks for watching !

Thanks Daniel ! Ranting doesn't help anyone .
Thanks Dave , the recorders/recordings are very good quality but the video seemed to lack the intensity of the original audio .
Hi MW83 , yes I've seen some of Kryder's work a long time ago . Didn't know he was making an audio recorder .

Excellent video and sounds Rusty. At the end after the thunder, the noise, do you have any idea or thoughts what it could be?

Re: My latest offering
Thanks Yowie bait , a more precise video coming soon .
Thanks rowbe , I'm guessing it's lightning related but can't find anything about it . It probably already has a name .
Thanks Richard , there's lots of information there if you look hard enough .
The subject mapping is interesting stuff but yes it takes a lot of time , I think it's worth it .

Thanks very much for the nice thoughts Searcher ! Yeah it's a lot of time but I enjoy the technical side of it for some reason , who would have ever thought mathematics would ever come in handy .
Hi AL , the sound I mention starts at exactly 10:43 of the video . It sounds electrical or like a transformer playing up . I don't hear any wood knocks . Maybe use headphones if you have them .

Awesome. The audio around 9min was interesting. The cadence seems fairly fast for a wallaby, though maybe not unheard of, but would be in line with bipedal movement. Big thing for me is there seems to be different left/right volume and frequency as well as slight differences in cadence - that all seems to suggest bipedal.
Could be my imagination of course...

Hi Rusty
Great work yet again, your methodology is impeccable and very easy to follow.
Hopefully I can present the results of my wood knock study (when I finally get started) as well as you present your results.
Cheers Nick

Re: My latest offering
Hi aaq , yes it's fast , I probably should have mapped and measured it but assumed everyone would get the idea .
I had another look at it a moment ago and took a measurement from one of the first heavy footsteps . Near the start of the running , the subject is over 40 metres away and has a very heavy impact compared to me .
There's 4 microphones facing north south east and west . Can't remember which 2 microphones I used but there very well should a difference between left and right channels as it moves closer and runs past . I would also imagine that there's obstacles the subject was avoiding which might explain the difference in cadence . Thanks for your thoughts , impact chart below .
Thanks Nick , I appreciate your help with the audio charts , it's made all the difference .
Looking forward to your wood knock study .

Re: My latest offering
Thanks greybush , no problem !
Interesting experiment MW83 . The area I'm in at the moment isn't far from a highway and I do get vehicle noise during the day . At night the road noise changes and becomes more intense and clearer . The same is happening to me as in the above video . Short pieces of clear vehicle noise . I actually thought it was barking that I'd captured but it wasn't , it was the road .

Great work Rusty. This has been the most fascinating and comprehensive project. The movements combined with the audio opens a whole new insight into these creatures behaviours. The currawong theory also rings true from recordings I have collected. Great stuff mate.

Thanks mate , yes , I think your right , the currawong and other birds are involved somehow . The subject tracking is time consuming but worth doing , it illustrates something we've never seen before , I think it's thought provoking .AustralopithecineOz wrote: Mon Oct 07, 2019 8:15 pm The movements combined with the audio opens a whole new insight into these creatures behaviours. Thanks Yowie bait , you don't have currawongs there ? From what I can tell they seem to be the main alarmists of the forest . I have heard rosella parrots going banana's as well .

Oh yeah. We got them here. Theyre really observant. I bet theyve seen all sorts of weird stuff in the forest.Rusty2 wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2019 3:33 pm Thanks Yowie bait , you don't have currawongs there ? We have had lots of dramas with them ripping out the plastic in our windscreen wipers and peeking in the door among other things. I like them but they have heat with my wife from scratching up her car.
Theyre always calling to each other. It would make sense they would warn the others. Like the monkeys do in the jungle when they see a predator.
Its amazing how rival birds will join together when a mutual predator is about.

That's an interesting point that I never thought about . I've seen it happen but forgotten about it . Rival birds do join together to harass unwelcome visitors .Yowie bait wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2019 4:41 pm It would make sense they would warn the others. Another great revealing video Rusty, yeah you’re right about those currawongs. It would make sense those birds following Yowie’s etc.. good chance of a easy meal. They have often followed me out hunting.

Hi Richard , it never dawned on me that a currawong might follow a yowie in the hopes of picking up leftovers , it makes sense , opportunists . The one in the above video seems to be freaking out though . I assumed the currawongs were freaking out because a yowie might steal their eggs and warn other birds . ???Wingnut wrote: Wed Oct 09, 2019 5:53 pmIt would make sense those birds following Yowie’s etc.. good chance of a easy meal. Haha , yep , semi retirement . I'm over it but there's some one off things still bugging me that I'd like to investigate and instead of doing it when I have to , I'll be doing it when I want to .
