Interesting story yes. However, if you read the followups, it turns out to be just a rumour.
The reservation where it was suppose to have happened was quite a small res and the locals who were subsequantly questioned, say that it didn't happen. That they would know, if a Sasquatch had been shot.

Forgot to mention.
The "Pine Ridge", South Dakota area where the shooting is suppose to have happened, apparently has a problem with Bigfoots peeking into windows at night and banging on Walls of buildings and trailers. An ongoing issue apparently.
