Infrasound detections

Unread post by neanderthoughts »

A long time AYR follower, 1st time poster!

I’d like to inquire about Infrasound recording efforts when investigating sites.

It’s common knowledge that many large mammal species use infrasounds for long distance communication e.g. Elephants, Rhinoceros.
“However, scientific study continues on particular mammals using infrasound to stun prey. E.g. Tigers.”
(Scientific American)

“Reported effects of infrasound exposure include those on the inner ear, vertigo, imbalance, etc.; intolerable sensations, incapacitation, disorientation, nausea, vomiting, and bowel spasm; and resonances in inner organs, such as the heart.” (https://ntp.niehs.nih.gov/ntp/htdocs/ch ... nd_508.pdf)
Symptoms, that are similar to many witness testimonies.

Infrasound in hominids.
“In studying mountain gorilla vocalizations, Dieter and I have discovered that they can produce infrasonic vocalizations — very deep calls that lie outside the range of human hearing. No other primate produces meaningful infrasonic vocalizations, so we are exploring its utility for gorillas.”
UA primatologists Dieter and Netzin Steklis

From the many reports of witnesses experiencing unexplained physical effects, have infrasound frequencies been targeted for detection/recording in field trips?

And on nictitating membranes:
“Of 22 species of subhuman primates examined, 21 have a well-developed nictitating membrane; it is vestigial only in Pan satyrus/troglodytes. The sizes of membranes range from those that cover only one-tenth of the eye (Gorilla gorilla) to those that extend over the entire eye (Perodicticus potto and Arctocebus calabarensis).”

Interesting, when hearing eye-witness reports of this...

Love your work, AYR.

You probably know of him but I'm pretty sure theRusty222 on youtube has samples of infrasound in the field. Sorry I can't direct you to a particular video. His latest are pretty slick. Hope that's a help! (thumb up)
